Don't Go Into the Forest

>check your pockets for anything that can ward off any weird things you may find.

You find some mushrooms growing on the side of a tree. You figure they're probably safe to eat. You pull some out and stuff em in your pockets, then nonchalantly munch on one as you continue.

> Find two pieces of rock, bash together until one of them is vaguely sharp

You bash the rocks together for what feels like hours. Eventually one of them looks kinda like it's developing some sort of pointed end, slightly.

> Attempt to find the most dangerous critters around to know what you're up against

You find a nasty squirrel. It crawls up your pants and takes one of your mushrooms. You chase it around with your rock, but it's too quick for you to catch. It climbs a tree and laughs at you from above.

> Go to a stream and and bathe in it

You bathe in the stream. It's refreshing.

When you go to put your pants back on, you find that more squirrels have taken your mushrooms.

>Look at your hands

You look at your hands. They're all wrinkled from bathing in the river. They were dirty before, but you washed the dirt off. They hurt from bashing rocks together all day.

> Gather some solid wood and perhaps some rope around where you slept to make a simple camp

You grab a bunch of branches from the trees and gather them together. You've long lost track of the place you fell asleep in, so you set them by the stream.

You search the woods for any rope, but unfortunately, it's trees as far as the eye can see.

Uh oh. It looks like you've lost track of the stream.

> Make some fire.

You gather some more wood, then take your pointed rock and hit it against some other rock. You continue like this for hours, but unfortunately, you are unable to spark a fire.

It's getting late. You look up at the stars, you see how they shine for you.

Even obscured by the trees, they're beautiful.

What do you do?

>Climb to the top of the highest tree you can find and jump off

You climb a tree but you decidedly don't jump off, because you value your life, surprisingly.

From above the treetops, the stars are even beautifuler.

You try to leave the forest, but unfortunately, it's trees as far as the eye can see.

You spend some time doing all that stuff. You're not sure when you became such a good survivalist, but hot damn if you're not great at this stuff. Soon enough, you have a sturdy, working hammer with a semi-sharp end at the back.

Yes... Under the cover of night, the squirrels will be asleep, and they'll never see you coming. It's the perfect plan....

You scour the trees for any hidey-holes the squirrels may be sleeping in. Finally, you find one, and beat it to death with your hammer.

Now you have one (1) dead squirrel. If only you had a fire.

You try to think. What are some local cryptids you could disguise yourself as? After a while, you reach a conclusion.

You start tearing and dirtying all your clothes, spreading mud over your face and especially around your eyes. You find some large branches and carry them around. If you had some rope of some sort, you could attach them to your back, but for now this will have to do.

Now, if someone saw you from afar, they might think you are the Weeping Willow, the lady of the forest. It's a great disguise, you think.

You look up at the stars, you see how they shine for you. But one of them shines brighter than the others, its light poking through the tree foliage and bathing you in its light.

Oh wait. No... No, that's just the moon.

>Transcend reality

The light of the moon shines down at you, bathing the forest in its light. Suddenly, the entire forest is an ethereal blue. The trees turn all wavy and wobbly, swaying back and forth within your vision. You can feel your soul transcend into the spirit realm.

Or maybe it was just those mushrooms you ate.

Through your hazy vision, you can see your mom looking sternly down at you.

"Don't go into the forest, Johnny. You will never survive out there. You may think you're strong enough, but you aren't, and you never will be. Stay here with us, where it's safe."

It doesn't feel safe.

You pout.

You try to do that, but soon realize you do not have the resources to turn the forest into a mall. Also, you are still suffering from mushroom-induced hallucinations. Your mother tells you you will never amount to anything.

You have no idea where you are, you have no sense of direction, the forest is trees as far as the eye can see, and you are currently suffering from a mushroom-induced hallucination. You haven't the slightest idea where home could possibly be.

You look up into a tree and spot the freshest, brightest, ripest berries. They positively glow in the light of the shining moon, and even through your hazy vision you can see them in brilliant detail, dripping with delicious juices, beconing for you to pick them. Truly, you must have entered the Garden of Eden, and this is the Forbidden Fruit.

You run up to the tree and bang your head against it repeatedly. The tree trembles and shakes, as does your vision, but the fruit doesn't budge. You feel too dizzy to climb it, so you just keep banging your head against it. Your mother laughs at you, insisting that if you cannot even retrieve fruit from a tree, you are worthless.

Come back home to us, she repeats. We will take care of you. We will keep you safe.

Eventually, you hit your head against the tree so much that you lose consciousness, your body slumping to the ground unceremoniously.

>Dream

In your dream, you are in the forest, only the trees are made of stars. The entire forest twinkles and shines around you, bathing you in its celestial light. Though your feet are planted firmly on the ground, it feels as though you are flying. You fly through the forest, gazing in wonder at the stars around you.

Eventually, you hear something moving within the woods. You turn around to spot an enormous elk, grazing calmly among the stars. It turns to face you and opens its eyes, assaulting you with a harsh, blinding light.

> Wake up and gather rope materials.

You awaken groggily from your slumber. It is now a bright, sunny day in the forest. Your mushrooms are all gone, and you are suffering from a terrible headache. You reach up and feel a horrific welt on the center of your forehead.

You look up into the tree from last night. It's fruitless.

You have no idea how to make rope.

You look at the coins in your pocket. You're not entirely sure, but you don't think they make coins out of steel. You have a paperclip, though.

You spend a good part of the morning trying to ignite a spark with your paperclip. You are getting hungry.
