OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:

Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).

Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.

However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -

Can I discuss Dexit?

Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.

If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.

Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

It sounds like while 18 gyms exist, you only need to beat 8 Major League Gyms to qualify for the championships. What it doesnt say if that ALL the gyms will be rotated between verions. If they were, then each game would have 8 unique gym fights each at most, meaning up 16 different gym leaders fightable this region. But i think the smarter play would to mox and match a few "canon" major leagues between games, so that when V2 comes around, the remaining gyms can also be playable, meaning during thenehole gen all 19 are fightable.

Okay. Milo and Nessa seem to be in both versions, so it's a safe bet that the Fire gym will be as well to complete the starter trinity. That leaves 5 wild gyms, and 15 wild types. Enough to fill 3 versions.

If the League changes which gyms are Major League and which are Minor League every year, does that mean you have only one year to complete the eight gym challenge? And if the final challenge is a tournament, does that mean that if you lose, that you have to beat the eight Major League Gyms again to qualify for entry next year?

I'm not that optimistic about the number of Gyms that will actually be different between versions.

What I was thinking earlier was the Major and Minor gyms randomly switching after the player wins the Champion Tournament for post-game rematches.

I was also hoping you'd get to face the Minor league gyms during the game for extra experience.

Y'all are massively overestimating how much Game Freak actually intends to innovate with these games.

Not that it wouldn't be nice, mind you. But I wouldn't expect any of that to actually happen.

Well if they intended to sell more copies, having a lot of Gyms differ between versions would be the way to go.

The primary purpose of having different versions of the game isn't to sell double copies, but to encourage trading and socialization among players.

If a Pokemon game had every Pokemon in it, then there'd be relatively little point in trading. You could catch any Pokemon you want.

By having version-exclusive Pokemon and the like, the goal is to make it so that a single player cannot catch every Pokemon by themselves-you're forced to find other people to trade with. The over-arching goal is to make it so that players bond over Pokemon and to create a Pokemon-playing community. Indeed, I'd say one of the best ways to play Pokemon is to buy the game around the same time some of your friends or family are and co-playing it, battling and trading every once in a while.

Doing things that encourage players to buy both games is arguably against their interests. In the short term, they sell two games, sure, but they lose that socialization aspect and potentially long-term customers.

Pokemon Black and White did have that City/Forest area that required prodding into other peoples' games to develop them. Only problem was that the games had to be opposite to actually have any effect (and in this case, everyone owned White and nobody owned Black), and you had to do it more or less in person. If they added online functionality to this feature (like trading with someone over the GTS or something) and allowed one to benefit regardless of the version owned, that would be a start.

It's absolutely to sell multiple copies. This game alone has at least 3 different double pack bonuses.

I'm thinking that the 18 Gym lore was more to allow a mostly different set of Leaders to be challenged in the Third Versions, presuming that they're made. The lore implies that it would be limited to sequels, but the fact that we already have 1 version-exclusive pair with another yet to be revealed says that Alternate Universe has slightly more than its usual sway, either to the extent of a logical conclusionnote  or being a sort of Anti-Frustration Featurenote .

Though I was originally expecting the absentee leaders to all be in Poke-London waiting to take on comers from outside the ... brown/white? belt either prior to or in lieu of the Elite Four.

Guys, there's something that their explanation made clearer that fits with the setting and its real life counterpart.

PokΓ©mon Battles in Galar are a professional sport. With a Major League (think of the Premier League, or the Brazilian 1st Division) and a Minor League (smaller Divisions or Leagues). Depending on the version, certain Gyms are bigger names than others and compete in higher levels. For simplicity's sake, you're simply gonna go straight to the majors instead of working your way up and avoid falling down.

So, in other words: in Sword, Bea is doing quite well and probably has more connections, money and merchandising deals, while Allister is down on his luck. The opposite happens in Shield.

... And that's called jazz!

Why are people giving credence to a random list leak? It looked more like a random assortment of Pokemon. So far the only leak with true shit is the Affleck leak, and the next which warrants maybe some speculation is the riddle picture.

What brought this on? No one here is talking about leaks. I don't even know what this list leak is

Edit: Are you talking about this? Yeah, I'd agree that that one is pretty suspicious, with the g-max info in particular being eyebrow-raising. Or this one? That looks a bit more plausible but I'd want a few more "hits" before taking it seriously

Probably not. After people used the Sumo demo to datamine the dex, and with the revelation that the E3 demo from way back in June is still being wheeled around the world, they seem dead and determined not to let anyone taste anything of substance from this until it's already out in the wild.
