No, I don’t think so - the leak talks about her in a way that’s pretty consistent with what we’ve already seen.

It would be a little odd for the whole point of the season pass to be unexpected characters (as per Reggie) only for them to just go with two series that already got new characters in the same game.

Reggie never said that every character in the fighter pass would be unexpected or from new series.

What is that exact quote anyway? Because I see it used for basically every argument.

He didn't say they would be from new series at all. He said they'd be "new to Smash". Which is pretty much "they aren't veterans" as the most clear thing from it. It's a non-statement. He actually did say the pass is going to be unexpected to some degree. Using Joker as an example. He's not really that off. A lot were not expecting Microsoft to even say yes due to being a competing company. Not using Erdrick as the face, never mind even getting a DQ character as is, is fairly unexpected on its own(the leaks do matter, but people moreso wanted DQ, a series with a huge legacy, in). PP incidentally was not expected either.

All of the DLC so far has some kind of unexpected factor to them.

I mean, they know these are the characters people are paying extra for, so they have to make sure all of them turn heads.

That's not really what Unexpected Character is about. That's an audience-based reaction.

In this context, most people have no real clue of who'll be in and it shows. Nobody is heavily expected on their own so far. PP coincidentally fits what Reggie said about the Fighter's Pass.

Just because a very small amount of people knows leaks or make predictions based upon various theories doesn't mean the majority of people know who will be in either. Another thing is that Banjo & Kazooie actually were heavily surprising because they expected Steve or Master Chief instead, two major mascot characters for Microsoft right now. So it definitely still fits what it's supposed to be like.

Any Microsoft rep would have been a serious curve ball anyway. Unless they can get someone like Ratchet, it's gonna be hard to top BK, especially with all the characters Ultimate already has.

Probably the only one who could come close is a Sony exclusive, but the lack of fan votes pretty makes it a step below. Surprise factor, sure, but not as much hype factor.

New to smash is intpretted as new series to smash because everyone else is here after all. 3 newcommers from all new franchises, i would not hold my breathe for nintendo reps until a possible season 2

I'd expect first parties to come as individual DLCs.

The only thing that's clear is "characters not playable yet". That's literally what new to Smash actually directly means. The whole "new series to Smash" is an interpretation that is near impossible to back up. We have no clue what the DLC will be. We can easily see a Spirit or Series that has a 3rd Party Spirit get a character too with no issues. That's how poor the statement is. Now, if he actually said "new series to Smash", that's be very clear. But it's a vague non-statement at this point. We already knew that.

We could easily get a 1st party DLC, but it seems unlikely, as that's a bit more expected, and every character is unexpected to some degree so far, which is actually something that Reggie was clear on.

I'd love to see some Echo fighters as budget DLC.

Or free updates.

Anyway I suppose I should put out a more comprehensive wishlist for chatterers, that are very unlikely. Starting with 3rd parties.

• Sora: Impossible because Disney, that and a likely "one fighter per compnay rule" combined with not one but several DQ Heroes.
• Laharl, Valvatorez or Killia: I did mention wanting to see a Disgaea character in Smash and of the protagonist, Laharl's the most iconic, Val is the lead of an upcoming remake and Killia is the lead of the most recent non-remake game in the franchise. However I also mentioned it is a pipe dream as Nippon Ichi games seem to be more popular in the US (and the company is having financial troubles).
• Marona: Less likely then Disgaea main characters, but The whole Spirit thing in Smash Ultimate grants her a thematic reason to appear should Nintendo and NIS allow it (however this means she might tie with Piranha Plant in being The Unexpected Character of Ultimate). If she plays close to Ice Climbers or Rosalina, then Ash also has a slot.
• Spyro the Dragon: Having not played any Crash game, I'm a little biased :P.
• Cadence: Hey she already crossed over to Hyrule. Smash is the next logical step :P
• Sly Cooper: Why let Joker steal all the thieving fun?
• Neptune: would be an interesting metafictional choice, and might open up the other CP Us to appear later on in the franchise (which would yield interesting interactions considering the roster has Nintendo, SEGA and Xbox fighters and some Playstation overlap)

And now for 1st parties (which for the record seem to not be in the Fighters pass, also I'm not listing Waluigi)

• Hector: Reasonably popular (among FE fans at least), and as a bonus is not a sword fighter (though if the Weapon triangle follows him, that might be to his determent) so he should add some variety to FE's representation Oho.
• Ashley: Mostly because of assist trophies.
• Octolings: With the Inklings already in the game, they'd make easy and excellent echo fighters.
• Rex and Pyra: Another option for a Puppet Fighter, plus Xenoblade 2 & X seem overdue for Smash reps anyway.

Reggie also said there are no echoes in thendlc pass, so octolings can get boot.

There could be a dedicated Echo pack afterwards.

Octolings could easily be unique using Splatoon 2 weapons.

I'd be fine with separate Echo DLC. Sakurai also noted that Echoes are not a part of the Fighter's Pass anyway.

He notes that, so do lots of other people do, yet some people still think that the next character will be one.

So is the only thing that stopping the Octolings is color thing? Pretty sure that's easy fix unless the Ocotolings are lot more original than I think they are.

Totally would spend 20 smackaroos for 10 Echo Fighters.

Only echo fighter I want is Dry Bowser.

What is the appeal of Dry Bowser being an Echo Fighter instead of costume? This has been suggested more than just twice.
