Are there like, guidelines to newcomers seeking to participate in the show?

Nothing super special, just follow basic roleplay ettiquette for the most part. Most of us play as ourselves (or goofy fun versions of ourselves) but you can play any kinda character you want.

I think the only thing to keep in mind that newcomers often have trouble with is that each episode has a particular theme and feel, and it's good to keep that in mind when posting. If you wanna do something that would radically alter the mood or dynamic of a scene, it would probably be good to take it up with the group first, either on here or on the discord.

Oh yeah also we have a discord we use for hangout and discussion - it'll probably be easier to reach the group that way since a lot of us are more active on there. Lemme know if you want in, we can DM you the invite.

Hi, so I was thinking about making a character to join the show, since I'm relatively new to the TV Tropes forum (I've been here for less than a month), and this would be a great place to start. I was wondering if there's anything I need to do to join. I could just debut in a new episode, if that's fine.

Also, I have an overview of my character, if you want to see.

Welcome! You can usually show up whenever, but the episode we're currently on is a little confusing (it involves body-swapping), so waiting for the new episode like you suggested is a good idea. Also, character profiles aren't required but feel free to share yours!

Ok, after a whole day of thinking, I've come up with ideas for my debut. I'll probably join the Discord later, but I'll just stay here for now. I'll try to keep this brief.

So, my character's name is Fuzzy (that's what everyone calls him). He's a smart but laidback teenager who ends up in Tropesburg after getting lost by bus on a school trip, and decides to stay there. He's something of a voice of reason, but still childlike and silly at times. He's also quite imaginative, but he yearns for independence. Here's a picture of him◊ as seen on my troper page.

I also want to phase in Fuzzy's pet/sidekick later on, but only if you guys are fine with it.

his name is Daniel Browne and he's just a snarky asshole (he cares but doesn't show it. classic.) who also happens to occasionally murder random civilians (Im fine with staying away from descriptions i was just thinking of like a running gag of smthn like Daniel will commit some horrible crime and someone's like "oh Daniel, when will you learn? you can't [insert crime against humanity here]!" and he just shrugs and smirks or something equally dumb). also, he's got mild regeneration and is immune to aging and disease due to a classic Deal with the Devil.

he got to tropesburg because he was chasin some random guy for fun and tripped and fell down a huge hill and just... rolled into town.

Hey! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Most of the discussion for this thread happens on Discord, if you have an account there I can PM you a link to our server. It's not required to join but strongly recommended.

We're currently on an episode involving body-swapping, so it's probably a bit hard to make your debut there. I would recommend you wait for the beginning of the next episode, that should make your debut smoother.

As a side note for posterity, while character bios and descriptions before signing up are allowed, the traditional way most of have done it is just to make up our characters as we went along. Of course, either is fine, how you enter is less important than how you play. Your character definitely has comedic potential and I like that.

Hey, Omega, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you should calm it down a bit. The Tropers wouldn’t reasonably just immediately accept some aggressive cannibal off the streets into their own, so as an introduction, this is a little much.

Also, I know you want to do this fighting for money thing, but we pre-plan episode ideas, and it would just kind of be hard to have you run your own subplot, considering you’re new and you’re not on Discord. Just consider going with the flow for now, see if this is the thing for you.

Uh, I've done RPs in the past on other sites, would you guys recommend that I join here? I wanna make a good first impression. I've got a lot more experience in RP than it may appear at first (Not as much as the experts, obviously).

Hi. I'm interested in joining the show. One question: can my character be a whole bunch of functionally identical characters, essentially The Dividual? I was thinking an actual pod of seals, you know, like my username, who gained sentience through unknown means. They wouldn't be distinguishable from one another (even sharing one name), and whether or not they are aware of things happening to other members of the pod will most likely fluctuate based on what's funniest or suits the story best. There would usually be like three or four of them in a scene at a time. (They'd probably have some sort of flight to go along with their sentience. While it would be funny for them to just bounce everywhere like real seals, at some point it would become impractical.) Just wondering if that would be okay.
