Well, that didn't work. Let's try it again.
They uploaded a new video yesterday that discusses the Satire/Parody/Pastiche distinction by comparing Watchmen with One-Punch Man.
I should mention that Wisecrack has made several pilots recently and also has a discontinued show, 8-bit Philosophy.
Thanks for reminding me. Here are the pilots, in order of release.
The Film Tourist, where Jared quite literally inserts himself into a movie to talk about a seemingly inconsequential shot.
How Did We Get Here?, where Tyler Rice's animation and Jacob Salamon's narration discuss the predictions of a work that seem to have come true.
The Internet Was a Mistake, where the gang discuss the various flaws with the internet.
Earthling Cinema is moving to a new youtube channel.
I've just found this show recently through my GF. Anyone got any recommended videos? Also do you guys have anything you'd want him to cover for deep or dumb? I'd like to see him cover a movie that the baby boomers and many esteemed movie Critics like but don't see talked about much on the internet these days. Rebel Without A Cause specifically.
METAL GEAR!?I would like for them to tackle Puella Magi Madoka Magica or the Franchise/{{Pokémon}} games.
A quick "search forum titles" turned up a thread for Thug Notes, but not for the parent channel. So here I am, making one for it.
For those of you who haven't heard of them, Wisecrack is a website dedicated to highbrow analysis of pop culture. Their various shows include...
- Thug Notes, in which classic literature is given an analysis by our friendly neighborhood gangster, Dr. Sparky Sweets. As I said earlier, we already have a thread for it.
- Wisecrack Edition, which is the real name for "The Philosophy of...," in which Jared takes a piece of pop culture, and analyzes what its philosophy is, citing historical figures, classic texts, and intellectual concepts to make his argument.
- As well as its occasional spin-off "What Went Wrong," which is essentially a post-mortem analysis of works with Unfortunate Implications, Broken Aesops, and Don't Shoot the Message problems.
- Earthling Cinema, in which we are given a rundown of film history and literacy from the perspective of an alien.
- The Squanch, Their episode-by-episode podcast discussing Rick and Morty.
- Show Me the Meaning: A conventional movie analysis podcast.
And several others which aren't as well-known as those five.So for better or worse, this is now a place to discuss the site, specific videos, crossovers with other people, etc. To get us started, here's the most recent video: Earthling Cinema's analysis of The Room, comparing it to A Streetcar Named Desire, and showing visual metaphors.
