My Superhero Academy (Superhero Highschool RP)

Oooh.... parent's day is going to be either very interesting or very poorly attended. if you do have a day for the parents to visit and allow it, I might have Victor's dad show up, just to see what happens when a character who's at least partially inspired by Darkseid shows up, nibbles on the offered cookies, and flirts with any single moms while avoiding his one-time fling.

Paranoia - The Most Fun You Can Have With Deadly Lasers!

So I wasn't quite sure how to write this idea; I went for two sheets but bear in mind they are physically linked together. Caleb's backstory isn't plot relevant but I can PM you it anyway if you want.

• Real Name: Caleb [Last name unknown, even his first name was just a hunch]
• Age: 17[Again, even he's not sure]
• Appearance: At a glance, Caleb's nothing special; a lanky, 5'5" teen, pretty androgynous looking and plagued with acne. The only thing which really stands out is the short, untidy hair which is somehow lilac (and refuses any efforts to be dyed). Covered up by his clothing almost always, however, is a huge scar stretching all the way down his back. Additionally, at random small bursts of purple light seem to travel up his body, seeming to glow from underneath his skin. His clothing is pretty normal and unambitious but sometimes gets torn up when using his powers, though he's refused a costume.
• Personality: Caleb is quiet and withdrawn, though certain things have been known to bring him out of his shell. Not knowing his past clearly troubles him but he can't find a single lead, which has caused quite an identity crisis. He also has an inherent curiosity, which often includes things that aren't his business or are rather dangerous.
• Powers: Caleb inherently has no special abilities. He is, however, bonded to a symbiotic lifeform known as Harmony and can use her powers through their bond. This bond is 'stuck' and may be keeping him alive.
• Gear: In addition to mundane materials, he owns a smart watch given to him by a tech hero that can monitor his vitals and his connection to Harmony (it also has wi-fi).
• Backstory: A little over a year ago, an unknown impact was tracked flying through the air at high speeds and impacting in the middle of a remote desert. When investigated, the impact crater was found not to contain any meteor or missile but a curled up human being. On being pulled out, Caleb (which he eventually realized might be his name) was found to be covered in a glowing purple ooze, and had no memory of who he was or how he'd ended up rocketing through the sky at high velocity. [Is there a SHIELD like organisation in this setting? If so, I assume they would be involved here] On being examined, it was discovered that the ooze was actually a sentient being who had fused with Caleb's body, possibly irreversibly. The being seemed to 'wake up' gradually and in time began to speak. Worried about the destructive power and lack of control the fused duo seemed to have, it was decided they would be enrolled into Saint Academy.
• Miscellaneous: I don't plan for him to get his memories back at all. Similarly, he and Harmony could split but this won't happen within the course of the RP.

• Real Name: Harmony
• Age: 1
• Appearance: Harmony doesn't have a set physical appearance, as her physical form is a shape-shifting ooze. However, she is currently sharing Caleb's body. At will she can bring part of her mass out of the body and shape it, forming a costume (she can partially change colour with some additional effort) or some other external attribute. When injured or focusing she glows.
• Personality: Harmony is much more bubbly and active than her host. She's fairly sociable, wishing to make friends with a lot of people and find out more about them. She also has a strong but somewhat childish sense of justice, wanting to be good and punish evil-doers. She also shares Caleb's curiosity
• Powers: Currently, Harmony is fused with Caleb's body. While she could hypothetically separate, she doesn't know how to do so and doesn't want to. She normally acts like a passenger, feeling his experiences and talking in Caleb's head but she can also 'sleep' to give him privacy or take over the body entirely (although if she does so against his will he can try to wrestle back control). In this form, she has a variety of abilities that seem inherent to her species.
  • Flight: Self explanatory at a basic level. However, she can continue to build up speed up to an unknown maximum if given long enough
  • Energy absorption: She can absorb energy such as light and heat and use this to sustain herself. She's also figured out how to absorb kinetic energy to reduce the impact of a physical hit but this does require 'bracing'. Some of this energy can be transferred to Caleb but while she could live with this ability alone he still needs to eat.
    • Force-blast: An awkward but potentially very powerful ability. If she builds up an excess of energy she can channel it and redirect it, causing an explosion or becoming a sort of living missile without hurting Harmony or Caleb. Both are rather scared of this power, largely fueled by the fact that it can start happening accidentally if their emotions get out of control.
  • Shape-shifting: Can extend a portion of her mass to form any basic shape, although she has a limited quantity of mass and can't change Caleb's body.
  • Healing: Given enough time and energy, Harmony can heal herself, though severe wounds may induce a temporary comatose state. This ability can extend to Caleb, using her form to mend his wounds, albeit less efficiently and with the same caveats.
  • Anatomy: As she doesn't seem to have any organs, it is unlikely Harmony will suffer any injuries Caleb won't take worse. However, blunt damage and energy she doesn't brace to absorb will still hurt her and if Caleb dies while they're fused, she'll die to (she doesn't know this for obvious reasons but does suspect it). She also doesn't need to breathe, although this is kind of useless as Caleb does.
• Backstory: Harmony is part of a celestial species she knows little about and if anyone on Earth has heard of them, they're keeping quiet. Her egg somehow entered Earth orbit where it hatched, but she doesn't remember much of her earliest life; only something vague about Caleb being hurt and her wanting to save him but she doesn't know where she found him or what happened. At first the two of them freaked about the merge, which seemed to lead to the crash incident. She started 'talking' to Caleb, learning what little he could remember and being hungry for more information. The two grew fond of each other but the authorities were concerned about their power; due to this, it was decided the pair would attend Saint Academy.
• Miscellaneous:
  • Her species are very rare and it is common for them to go a long time without meeting another of their kind. Full grown adults can travel independently through space but as Harmony is both young and bonded to a human host she can't.
  • The fusion wasn't intentional, but is another ability of her species - they can bond to a being and use their powers to heal it but the more they heal the stronger the connection gets.

Nope. Anyone can join at any time. Seeing as this is a highschool, that's pretty easy to do.

Anyway, N Ick the Swing, kagesscorpionakki, and Ferrous Maelstom accepted. And seeing as we've got eight players, we can get this RP started. Though it's not going to be until Saturday at the earliest. In the meantime, that gives any additional players a chance to sign up before the RP starts as well as let everyone else iron out any unforeseen kinks. There's also going to be a Discussion thread where accepted players can talk about anything relating to the RP, including world-building. If there are any concepts or ideas anyone wants to introduce, that's where they'll go.

• Appearance: Rebecca is a slender young woman with shoulder length blond hair and conventionally attractive features. Her clothes and body are generally caked with splotches of dirt and muck. Her costume consists of skintight green spandex with a biohazard symbol on the chest, paired with yellow gloves and boots. Elly generally manifests in the form of an impossibly filthy young girl in a tattered dress, though she can take other appearances when necessary.
• Personality: Rebecca is headstrong, reckless, and just a little sarcastic. She displays of love of superheroes that borders on obsession, and excitement at becoming one herself. With that said, she also has a mature, responsible side, usually displayed when taking care of her spiritual tenant. Elly is innocent, naive, and impulsive, rarely asking for people’s permission before doing what she wants.
• Powers:
  • Rhypokinesis - Rebecca is freely able to manipulate anything putrid or filthy, including garbage, sewage, and rot.
  • Putrefying Aura - Rebecca emits an aura of pure putrefaction, which rots vegetation, fouls water, and encrusts solid surfaces with an unidentifiable sludge. This aura is usually contained to skin contact, but can be expanded if necessary.
  • Stench - Rebecca, to put it quite simply, stinks. While usually just an inconvenience to those around her, this could be quite debilitating for people with an enhanced sense of smell.
  • Elly - Elly is a filth elemental who is bonded to Rebecca’s soul, and can manifest bodies for herself and shapeshift.
• Backstory: From a young age, Rebecca Raleigh has been a superhero fangirl. Her friends and family quickly grew tired of hearing her ramble on about her favorite heroes. Other than that, Rebecca’s life was fairly normal until one fateful day during her freshman year of high school. On a dare, Rebecca out to explore Hangman’s Swamp, which was rumored to be haunted by an evil spirit. It didn’t take the girl long to meet said spirit, a young filth elemental going by the name Elly who had accidentally scared off past visitors with her ethereal form. Wanting to leave behind the loneliness and monotony of her swamp, Elly decided to bond with Rebecca without her consent. While Rebecca was initially angry and distraught by this turn of events, it became glee as she realized that she had gained superpowers as a result. Her hygiene was a small price to pay to stand as a hero among the elites.

• Real Name: Matten Mahsa Mattiuza ^note  and Mahvash Matten Mattiuza. It's no secret just rarely used.
• Superhero Name: N/A—She's not really disguisable (See Appearance)
• Age: 19/ or about 3200. It's complex
• Appearance:
  • Ever-present Aura: No matter what Matten's form she's surrounded by will-o-the-wisp that crawl on her like so many centipedes. (Whoever she's "healed" will have one with the same effect). The wisps are crowned by a purest black halo at a tilted angle behind her head.
  • Mahsa: A deceptively fragile looking later-adolescent, who, under Matten's influence has grown to have long, wild black hair (actual black, past Vantablack) that seems to fade into her body itself. Her eyes are remain Mahsa's blue though. And, while not directly bearing on her appearance, the environment gets just a bit dimmer whenever she's around, and the wisps are deceptive: Matten's freezing cold to the touch. Matten's voice isn't immediately noticeable, but not slipping accents and speaking in her already low contralto takes effort.
  • Clothing: As Matten (and Mahsa) are prone to putting too much into things (occasionally without the resources to spare), expect her to regularly show up in suit jacket, no matter what, sometimes over jeans and a t-shirt and sometimes with an actual suit. ^{Eventual Superhero Uniform}  Eventually, Matten'll take to wearing a beige surcoat and a cloak over light, soft armor. (The armor is somewhat redundant to her khvarenah, but she'd rather not damage her body. Not like she was ever very fast, either). It won't dissolve after a night's use, and seems to somewhat fancy by her standards.
• Personality: Matten is both adventurous and charitable, not out of altruism. She just gets bored, and causing trouble tends to lead to banishment. And from Mahsa, she's quite a glory-seeker. She also likes attention. About anything excites her own interest, and she will follow mysteries through to the end. In a conversation, Matten's default is pseudo-sweet, even when being malicious mixed with the occasional snark. She sees the world through a 'particular'' lens, and will come to conclusions and courses of action that follow her own logic. And though it gets overshadowed by crazy at times, both sides are rather intelligent. ^note Matten has millennia of experience, and Mahsa's an A/B-student who got in trouble in the first place for a public duel (yes really—lady takes her reputation seriously)
• Powers:
  • Possession: Matten can only take a body with mutual assent. She needs no sustenance and moves without tiring. Otherwise, Matten's strength is that of whatever body she has (and Mahsa is rather strong but not superhuman). Her durability is a function of her Khvarenah (see below). Matten's also not much faster than base Mahsa before^note though she never rests, but has a peculiar way of getting around, i.e. just appearing when no one's observing her. Nonetheless, while she has it, it's her body and she has complete control of it.
  • Khvarenah: Matten's Khvarenah ^note similar to aura is always there, and its least effect is making her person rather tainting ^note think getting too close to a black hole(or restorative—it's how she "heals"^note Matten can offer a "false healing", that is, an injured person's body continues to work and Matten's Khvarenah drowns out pain and afflictions allowing the afflicted person to continue a fight or get to the hospital.), but she usually uses it as a medium for subtle motions^note think tricks like mimicry, wisps of her aura blasting out without warning, weak and obvious phantasms, or enhancing allies. As Matten gains a following, her power over bodies (and granting a share of her aura for damage field, toughness, and serene mind) spreads to people with her favor. ^note To reiterate: she can only control the bodies of people who near worship her (i.e. give her permission), and spreading her Khvarenah over another even with the intent to shield them will still damage their body severely. Matten still can't do much about being a hazard to anything and everything nearby. With some effort, she can disperse her Khvarenah to cover a large area, which trades nearby individuals in acute danger to everyone nearby feeling flu-like symptoms, to hair falling out ^note (just think sustained radiation poisoning).
• Gear: Matten doesn't carry around much, due to her nature. Even her license had to be etched onto a hard surface—which don't last long either if she carries them around too much. She is rarely seen without her bronze mirror though, and, when she can get away with it, a chain. She also brings her own utensils for meals.
• Backstory: Matten is your basic average daeva ^{long version} A rather weak but ambitious pseudo-goddess (who would simply be called a super in modern times), who doesn't deign to be left behind while the newer generations train and get stronger. Nonetheless, she could try to attract people with her patronage and actively compete with the newcomers. Emphasis on try. Phantasms do not help much for physically affecting the world. So though, she made her way to one nest of supers to make a union or at least study and pass them, she couldn't make much headway. Key Issue: she lacked a proper physical form—her Khvarenah phantasms being fragile shams, and just needed someone (that she liked) to say yes. Mahsa is your basic average, junior in high school. No she wasn't held back, just had a slight break from school—which may or may not have had something to do with jail time. ^{Long Version}  Mahsa may have spent some time in custody—in addition to doing other things that led her there. Her studies never stopped in the meantime. She still intended to get into university and do something (and because those in the school program got fewer chores—and positive feedback). Not quite willing to face her parents yet, Mahsa went through halfway houses, taking up work and board at the then Nameless Hotel. She knew the thing there was real, but twas just another super. Nonetheless, custody had not, at all diminished Mahsa's glory seeking—or nosiness. 'Just another super' became interesting when the role was offered to her. (read: Matten gave her a spiel about righting wrongs over a few months of bonding and a big technically-not-lie about Mahsa being The Chosen One, and well, Matten did choose her). For her part, Mahsa got powers; support for successfully! finishing her schooling at a new, special school as a totem again; and said apotheosis. Seemed fair. They make an odd sort of merger of souls. Each is active in their combined subconscious and when Matten acts, both feel as if it is their idea. Further, Matten has inherited Mahsa's bonds and goals.
• Miscellaneous: It should be emphasized that Mahsa (i.e. Matten) is well, older than the norm for high school. ^note Matten considers herself to be 19 and 3200. Matten's name and her identity, but Mahsa's base life experience and habits as well, around which Matten's past experiences fit in. All of which feels equally real. She can swing between wise and immature at random intervals. And has a sort of career through Hotel Mahsa ^note (then named after the current host). So, she has a car and lives on her own. (Albeit very poorly and in a self-imposed exile). Still, no reason not to finish what one started and undo a disgrace. Mahsa's parents are rather proud. Now. They find her new network (and self) rather odd, but though they won't admit, they had somewhat lowered their standards regarding their only child.

The first thing people notice about Oliver is his height; at 6' 7", he towers over most of his peers, and has the strength to match his size. Personality

Because of his size and the fact that he doesn't talk much, people assume that Oliver is dumb. The reality is quite the opposite, while he does average in most school subjects, he is a tactical genius. Though, as a tactician, he has one fatal flaw: He hates when people he's in charge of- be it in a video game or real life- die. Other than that, he's a big teddy bear, and is fiercely loyal, and will die to protect his closest friends. He can be a push-over sometimes, but if he recognizes he's being treated poorly, he'll speak up.

Also, the only sane man.

Powers

Besides abnormal strength and the ability to breathe underwater, Oliver can also use metal as a focus for his arcane powers. These powers include a beam of energy, a force field, and the ability to create tremors. Oliver prefers to use a sword as his focus, but when push comes to shove, can use any metal object, though the powers will be much weaker than normal.

Background

Oliver was born to two uranium miners on a colony near the solar system. He had a relatively normal life, as normal as one can get when working as a miner for an intergalactic tech company. The company ruled the colony with an iron fist, and Oliver didn't really like that, so he gathered a group of his friends, took his grandfather's old sword, and started fighting back. It didn't take long to get an actual rebellion started, which he led, until a giant robot punched him out of the colony's orbit, into the solar system, and eventually into Earth. He landed outside of San Diego, California, and lived on the road for a few years, until a staff member from Saint Academy found him and recruited him.

@Century Eye: Sorry, but I think you'll need to go back to the drawing board with that one. Most everything about her is fine, but her backstory needs some work. For starters {takes deep breath}...

1. Where is Manzadaran and how would such a place exist in the modern world? Is it in some sort of hidden valley or some such? Is it located in another dimension? Is it protected by some special invisibility field? Because otherwise, it's just not going to work.

2. In any of these cases, how would Matten get from Manzadaran to Super City, and why would she go there? Because as far as I can see, you haven't answered either of these.

3. Does Mandane come from Manzadaran? In which case, that just brings up back to questions 1 and 2.

4. Why did Manzadarn set up a temple and what are her 'deeds'?In fact, what did Matten do before meeting Mandane anyway?

5. Why would Mandane start attending Manzadaran's temple? What reason does she have to go there?

6. Why would she volunteer herself to be a deava-host? Why would she willingly let someone else posses her body?

7. What the heck are deava?

8. Why does Manda Matten want to attend Saint Academy?

And there are probably other things I haven't thought of. Or in other words...

Basically, there are a bunch of effects but not enough causes. You've told us what's happened but not why. And before you can be accepted, that's what we need to know.

• Real Name: Victoria Richter

• Superhero Name: Break Girl

• Age:17

• Appearance: Regular appearance. Her superhero outfit is much more simplistic and lazy, as is befitting. It's simply a tank top and jacket, jeans, combat boots, an eye mask and fingerless gloves.

• Personality: The first thing that just about anyone could tell you about Victoria is that she's a lazy ass, content with with putting in the bare minimum needed to achieve something. She's laidback, easygoing and a bit of a jokester. She likes to keep the expectations on her low, hence why she disguises her vibrokinesis as simply having super strength and durability. The way she sees things, making people expect big things from you is a surefire way to stress yourself out and cut into free time that could be spent doing something fun, like playing video games or watching anime. On that note, she's a huge fan of video games and anime, and isn't afraid to let that influence her when using her powers, often giving them over-the-top names if she can be arsed to actually blatantly use them, and often making references in doing so. Her laziness often leads to her being inconsiderate of others, since she's not afraid to take shortcuts through entire building complexes by blasting holes through walls to get to where she needs to be. When asked to explain herself, she'll almost never fess up to it, and will bullshit as many excuses as it takes to justify and either get people off her case or lighten her imminent punishment.

• Powers:
  • Vibrokinesis: Victoria has the ability to control vibrations and shockwaves, though she does her best to hide this as simply super strength and durability. She achieves this by subtly using her powers to create shockwave blasts before impacts, either right before her own punches land as a preemptive attack, or as a counteractive force when things are about to hit her. However, she can do so much more if she feels like it. She can feel the frequency at which something is at, as well as the resonant and dissonant frequencies, though in combat this requires repeated exposure via her "feeling the opponent out" with numerous touches from hitting and being hit physically. She can use shockwave blasts as both ranged attacks and propulsion. Given enough time, prolonged exposure to her vibrational-based attacks can easily destroy structures or break bones, especially if she knows the target's resonant frequency. She can also feel vibrations in the ground, giving her a tremorsense. By pushing this ability further, she could feel the vibrations in the air, making her sense moving objects in every direction in a short range, so long as it's an open space. She can also store vibrations inside her, though this also makes her start to shake uncontrollably, and the harmful effects of extreme vibrations running through her is lessened, though she's not immune.

• Backstory: Victoria was born into a relatively normal life, on Earth. Her mom a human resources manager at Newman Tech, which deals in new and experimental tech, and her father working as a restaurant chef, Victoria was set for a comfortable lifestyle. However, when she was around the age of 8, an attack by mole people caused an earthquake, with Victoria and her father at the epicentre. While her father managed to get away, Victoria wasn't so lucky, and was swallowed up by the ground, left in the still violently-shaking chasm, almost certainly to be her doom. Victoria can't quite remember what happened after that, only that she felt a warmth and a soothing massage sort of feeling. When rescue teams found her, she was miraculously unharmed, and it was as if the ground that was about to close around her had been roughly blasted away or crumbled into a fine dust. Later, in the comfort of her own house, Victoria discovered she could make things vibrate, crumbling a sugar cube experimentally. She then proceeded to forget about her powers for the most part for the next few years, carrying on with normal life, with an above average habit of jumping from hobby to hobby in a cycle of "Ooh, this sounds fun" and "Bored now". When she was around 16, she happened to come across a show about (celebrity) superheroes on television. Not the most grand of superhero motivations, but it was motivation. So, that's when she decided to go to Saints to become a superhero for fun. Interesting fact about her codename: On being asked what it was, she responded first with "Oh, give me a break..." and you can probably tell the rest from that.
