I mean it's not a bad idea. Which is why I try to look for it to be bigger then in just fanfiction in general. If we did that it would just mostly be slash ships listed.

Comment on all the other stuff I missed soon.

It makes sense that yeah, even different sites would or could have a conflicting consensus with each other to the point that we may not ever even be able to 100% nail down what a more popular FPC is certainly.

That does raise the question of how to judge Fan Preferred Couples for fandoms we're not involved with.

You see I do a lot of research before making an entry.

Yeah, Bull definitely doesn't slack on this stuff from the sound of it. I always go to him with questions certainly because I KNOW he'll likely have an answer.

For instance I wasn't super familiar with the Big Time Rush fandom. So I did a deep dive on stuff like fanfiction, tumblr, and other places. In fact my first entry for this trope, The Devil Wears Prada, came about because I had watched the film again and got super curious about if it had shipping. I should note that even then there are simply ones I can't verify due to having zero interest in the work.

Is anyone else here familiar with Aquaman (2018)? because I was thinking of making an entry for Arthur/Orm, but I would like a second opinion.

Yeah, I've seen it a couple times. I know nothing of fan pairings. The Arthur/Orm one makes sense though.

I'm weary about the incest ones in general.

I've only ever seen it once with three sick comedians watching a Chinese bootleg version. No, I'm not joking.

So I can't help with this much either, but if Arthur/Orm seems valid then I'd roll with it.

I was thinking. Would you guys be okay with readding a Draco/Hermione entry?

Sure thing. It's certainly a popular fan pairing.

[down]Well pairing Draco with Hermione is probably HIS most popular pairing even though it's not hers.

...Haven't pretty much the last 50 pages of this thread required more proof than "it's a popular fan pairing"? (Specifically WRT to being more popular than canon ones.)

[up][up] Last I checked, wasn’t his most popular pairing with Harry? Or is just that entry about them as a historical example that we were planning?

YMMV.Dream Daddy

  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • Steam stats on achievements indicate that, while all seven potential love interests for the Dadsona have similar levels of popularity, the largest minority of players chose Craig in the end. His route seems to be especially popular since he's the only love interest to have a pre-existing friendship with the Dadsona before the game starts.
      • Dadsona/Craig is also the only Dadsona ship to receive focus in the tie-in comics, though there's no indication that this is canon (and the writer of that issue confirmed it was a case of Author Appeal rather than being commissioned to write about that particular couple).
    • Among non-Dadsona, Robert/Joseph has a large fanbase due to their clashing personalities.

Basically, the game is a dating sim with 7 potential love interrests and all can end up in a relationship with the main character except for Joseph who decides to stay with his wife no matter what. So basically, all of them are equally "canon" to speak of.

Robert/Joseph could qualify. In story, it is said they had an affair but it's not portrated positively.

Draco/Hermione would only count for Hermione. Draco's most popular is with Harry.

[up] Cut then.

Someone just re-added this to Live-Action TV:

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Right from Spike's introduction in season 2 as the season Big Bad, the at the time Crack Pairing of Buffy/Spike had its fans, but its popularity as a ship really picked up when season 4 aired and Spike joined the main cast. And though they only really had an affair and plenty of Ship Tease rather than a true relationship (on the show), they still have a very active fanbase even 20 years after the show wrapped up and remain the pairing with the highest number of fanfiction on AO 3—beating out even Buffy/Angel by a rather large margin of a couple thousand.

So again this is canon, and while they don't officially get together. Buffy doesn't end up with anyone, and is given ship tease with everyone. Which means it needs to make a better reason to be listed. I am not saying that it's not popular just it needs more then that to. Which you could make but it would take a good one. Though like I said you could make one.

I sent the troper a PM to come here.

Hmmmmm... I can kinda see it. By the end of the series, Buffy doesn't end up with anyone, but the show still clearly plays the card that she and Angel are soulmates and will always love each other, while the farthest she and Spike get is slightly intimate sex. It's not the strongest example of this trope that I've seen, but it meets it in spirit - the show clearly pairs her with Angel over Spike even if she doesn't technically end the show dating anyone, and Spuffy is leagues more popular than Bangel or any other of her ships and it's not even close. The only thing that might complicate it is that the comics had them genuinely get together for a minute, but those came out years after the show so I'm not inclined to quite call it "official".

Then again, this isn't my usual trope, I just think that the entry does make sense in spirit from what I do know about this trope. Thanks for the summon Bull, happy to provide my thoughts!

I mean I forgot that the show does go out of it's way to paint her and Angel as soulmates. I am okay with it on those grounds.

Yeah I added them because there is tons of preferential treatment to Angel. It was worse when Riley was the boyfriend, Spike is treated as more of a "real" option than he was, but still, they don't really let Buffy move on from Angel and go all in on Spike. Buffy and Spike's "real" relationship was in season 7, and the only guy Buffy kisses all of season 7 is Angel. Literally, a scene after she promises Spike that their relationship is meaningful to her and implies maybe she'd like to try dating after the apocalypse is over, she's telling Angel she fantasizes about a future with him and tells him she doesn't see a future with Spike. She confesses love for him in the final episode but it's followed by Spike refuting it, so it's left up to interpretation how or if she meant it, or if it was something she said as a "Let Them Die Happy" gesture.

And while yeah, I'm sure some of this is the result of the writers dodging criticism about the infamous bathroom scene, the effect is the same: they weren't willing to commit to Spike as a romantic lead to the degree that they did Angel, and despite that, the pairing probably has the biggest fanbase. I felt it fit because of that.
