Not sold on the new Yu-Gi-Oh!. Gonna put it on hold for a few months like I did Arc-V before watching.

It's supposed much more science heavy then the previous series, even more then Arc-V and the main character is more mature then Yusei.

Will watch Berserk (2016) for the sake of troping it, but I expect it to suck as much as season 1 did. What I'd like is an announcement about when the manga will come back from hiatus.

Wonder what I might like this season. The only other franchises I know on the list are Titan and Academia.

The Royal Tutor has a page.

That's the only thing I'm interested in. Because a) princes, and b) Keisuke Ueda voice acting! (He's a stage actor, he played Misaki in the stage plays of K.)

Upcoming anime that I have things to say about, based on what we know about the production along with reading a bit of the manga and finding comments from other people:

    Various impressions
Alice to Zouroku

The premise belongs to a dark action series, the design are from a Slice of Life comedy, and the anime promotional material's tone is wistful. Which of these are accurate? ...From what (admittedly little) I've seen, all of them. It's a dramedy of the sort that can be silly one moment and depressing the next

Atom The Beginning

Sci-fi drama with a bit of action. It seems fine. As a prequel, I doubt familiarity with the source material will be required

Busou Shoujo Machiavellism

Campus battle action, now with more misogyny. Director has an amazingly poor track record, too. Being based on a manga means there's some actual work put into the character designs, at least

Clockwork Planet

From the writer of No Game No Life comes... something that doesn't live up to it at all. While the emphasis on humour and off-putting focus on enslaved girls is the same, it's rather short on the energy and creativity that made that work good. The protagonist is utterly dull and the odd setting is largely window-dressing. Between the disappointing source material and the anime's PV looking like shit, I have very low expectations for this one

Eromanga-sensei

Remember Ore Imo? It's like that, except with more focus on light novels and the sister not being utterly repugnant. If you're not familiar with Ore Imo, what we have here is a warm, fairly grounded low-key drama that focuses on otakudom... with incest

Fukumenkei Noise

It's a shoujo manga. From what I've heard, specifically a drama-heavy one

Granblue Fantasy

The first couple of episode have been out for a while now, if you really want a preview. If you're more concerned with about your time than the possibility of my tastes being unlike your's, well, I only bothered to slog through the first episode, but my word choice there should give you some idea of what I thought of it

Hinako Note

Cute girls doing cute things, of the sort we get most every season. What I'm not clear on is whether this is going to be shorts. I could go on at some length as to why, but the uncertainty is what really matters

ID 0

Taniguchi is directing, and that's really all that matters. He's one of the best directors in the industry when he's actually directing and not just giving the odd suggestion. Otherwise, 3DCG, but with the competent studio handling it, the writer is a bit erratic, and for some inexplicable reason the World Cosplay Summit is bankrolling it

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Sword Oratoria

For those already familiar with DanMachi: No, they didn't seriously think Aiz was capable of carrying a series on her own. The rest of Loki Famiglia gets plenty of screen-time (mostly the girls)

For those not familiar with DanMachi: You should be able to jump in. The manga made a point of explaining things as they came up

In general: This was actually one of the things I was most impressed with when doing my research. It might be pretty good

Kabukibu

This is definitely aimed at fujoshi. Aside from that... I can't really say much. I'd expect it to be cute boys doing cute things, but that's just a guess

Re:CREATORS

As an original series, there's not a whole lot known. This is definitely the work of Aoki Ei and Hiroe Rei, but that doesn't mean much. Aoki is a director of average talent who's been getting assigned to big-name projects on the basis of having worked on big-name projects in the past and Hiroe hasn't written anything other than Black Lagoon for a while, which is (probably) from a different genre, and therefore hard extrapolate much from. Plot almost certainly involves some sort of use of Refugee from TV Land, but where they're going with that isn't really clear— PVs show some flashy, chuuni fights, but also slice-of-life and what appears to be an ordinary male highschool student. So, uh, might be terrible. I'd suggest giving it a shot if you don't mind things that get labeled as chuuni, but would keep expectations low

Renai Boukun

More of a romance-themed wacky comedy than anything, really

Roku de Nashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records

And here I thought we might be done with these. Le sigh. Anyway, the guy is a jerk, the girls dress like Shimakaze, and you already know the rest

The Royal Tutor

This is exactly what you think it is

Sagrada Reset

I have no idea why this isn't "Sakurada Reset", but the promotional materials are insistent, so... Uh, what I read of it was pretty good. Low-key mystery while some minor superpowersnote

Sakura Quest

While promoted as the third part of a series that Shirobako belongs to, none of the staff is the same, so I wouldn't particularly expect it to be very similar. Don't really know what to expect, though

Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii Desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii Desu ka?

Probably easiest to call it "SukaSuka". That aside, I don't know much about it for certain. I've heard that it's good; a romance but not a harem; low on action; and that it's sad. I imagine somewhere between all and none of that is true

Tsugumomo

It looks old-school because it kind of is— it started in 2007, which is made further obvious by being a battle-ecchi series of the sort that's rare these days. Also, I'm told that this'll probably be heavily censored, and it's always a coinflip whether there'll be an uncensored version available before the discs are released

Tsuki ga Kirei

The series is advertising itself as primarily a drama, but the title suggests mostly romancenote . Or the end of the first episode could reveal that one or more of the characters are from the moon. This is unlikely but by no means impossible, with how anime tends to be promoted

What I want to focus on, though, is that the director is Kishi Seiji. While extremely experienced, he has no talent, and I cannot claim to be optimistic of him doing well with what appears to be a low-key romance/drama

Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho

Maintains some LN trappings, but appears to be doing it's best to be a legitimate fantasy series and not just another take on what's popular at the moment

Other stuff:

  • Of the series on the list in the first post, I am positive that Kenka Banchou Otome and Souryo to Majiwaru Shikiyoku no Yoru ni... are shorts. There's also a couple others I never got around to listing
  • There's a bunch of kids series getting new seasons and changing their titles. I don't really have anything to say about any of them and most of the western fandom doesn't care, so they're not here (Though YGO is on the main list because it retains something of a western following)

Eromanga-sensei confirms the author hasn't had a sibling in his life.

Which you could have taken away from the Oreimo finale so why bother?

Definitely like all 3, and seeing the Ape Titan, Stain and "FAVAROOO!" animated will be worth watching them, especially since the latter two are 2 cour instead of 1 cour this time around (Attack on Titan is reported to end on its 100 chapter mark according to the author, so I suspect that the anime will be 3 cour to match it).

I wondered if the Tomita mecha anime would be similar to Chosouku Henkei Gyrozetter, sans the fanservice of the adult characters.

Also, the severe lack of previews of kids anime (for some reason Puzzle & Dragons X and Monster Hunter Stories were covered by most anime sites, though) is quite frustrating.

So the new YGO got delayed to May

Aside from that we're only lacking airdates for Natsume and Re:CREATORS (not sure what the hold-up is there), and have PVs for most things

Snack World. Weird title aside, this looks great and the 3D models are servicable.

My current to watch list:

  • Tomita Hyper Rescue Drive Head: Kidou Kyuukyuu Keisatsu
  • Frame Arms Girl
  • 100% Pascal Sensei
  • Monster Strike 2nd Season
  • Snack World
  • Mori no Yousei: Kinoko no Musume

RC's preview is out. If my own preview wasn't good enough for you

murazrai Since: Jan, 2010
#47: Mar 25th 2017 at 9:17:57 PM

Previews for kids' anime not covered here or RC:

  • The Snack World: Pretty average 3DCG anime with some modern twist of the fantasy genre. It's no Little Witch Academia, but worth a shot.
  • 100% Pascal Sensei: Average kiddy humor anime in vein of Heybot and Oshiri Kajiri Mushi. Hopefully not as offensive, though.
  • Akindo Sei no Little Peso: Same as above.
  • Makeruna! Aku no Gundan: Again, same as above.
  • Mori no Yousei: Kinoko no Musume: Not sure about this one, but I'll give it a shot. Anything can happen, but don't expect anything similar to 12-sai: Chiccana Mune no Tokimeki.
  • Puri Puri Chii-chan: Same as above, but I won't bother with this one.
  • Tomita Hyper Rescue Drive Head: Kidou Kyuukyuu Keisatsu: Will it be another old school style anime or similar to Chousouku Henkei Grozetter? Hard to say, but the mecha designs seemed to pointing towards the former. Expect immature wacky hijinks in vein of Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On.

The following anime are sequels, thus watching earlier seasons beforehand are necessary.

  • Beyblade Burst God
  • Lilu Lilu Fairilu: Mahou no Kagami
  • Monster Strike 2nd Season
  • Future Card Buddyfight Battsu
  • Idol Time Pripara
  • Aikatsu Stars! 2nd "Hoshi no Tsubasa"
  • Duel Masters 2017: Technically this is not a sequel, but the protagonist of this anime is the son of the Duel Masters VS's protagonist, which will lead to missed references.

Whoa, this totals up to 14 kids' anime this season, the highest ever in any seasons. Now, will a new Battle Sprits anime come out or Battle Spririts Double Drive would continue? I don't watch them, but I don't want the anime series to be end.

Hmm. A potent looking season lets see

Definite:

  • Boku no Hero Academia
  • Attack on Titan
  • Danmachi Gaiden (I've already read the first two novels)

Will Check out:

  • Frame Arms Girl
  • Sakura Quest (Shirobako earned P. A. Works a lot of good will. Let's see what they do with it)
  • Clockwork Planet
  • Re:Creators
  • Suka Suka

Maybe:

  • Alice to Zouroku
  • Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism
  • Sagrada Reset
  • Tsugumomo
  • Sekaisuru Kado

fillerdude Since: Jul, 2010
#50: Mar 26th 2017 at 5:27:12 AM

Sequels:

  • My Hero Academia: The arcs where the story really starts picking up. Looking forward to the tournament arc.
  • Shingeki no Kyojin: Will be an excellent refresher, I reckon.
  • Shingeki No Bahamut: The best mobile card game adaptation is back. FAVAROOOOOOO!
  • Uchouten Kazoku: Here's one show I didn't expect to see a sequel of. I'm ready for more tanuki misadventures.
  • Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata: Another one I wasn't expecting a sequel for. Well, before I learned about it a ways back when, at least. Psyched to see Utaha and Megumi again.
  • Sword Oratoria: More of a spinoff, but hey. We shift from ol' vanilla Bell to the considerably more intriguing Aiz Wallenstein. Just throw in a couple of awesome fights in there, that's all I want.

Interesting New Stuff

  • Gin no Guardian: Premise reminds me of No Game No Life. Now to see how much logic BS this hero will come up with.
  • Granblue Fantasy: Interesting more for the production and the staff than the thing itself, but we'll see. It'll look nice at least.
  • Alice to Zouroku: A naive, reality-bending lassie finds herself in a heartwarming family drama. The question is how much of the human-experiment stuff will bleed into the show proper. A dash of the amoral and violent would make this a lot more exciting. But then that's probably not what it's going for.
  • Tsugumomo: Just to finally see what's up with this.
  • Warau Salesman: Move over Tanya, THIS is what evil salesmen should be like!
  • Roku de Nashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records: Having the male lead be a teacher is a refreshing distinction from similar works, and apparently the guy relies more on wits than some super special secret power. Nice. Let's push that mould one step at a time.
  • Busou Shoujo Machiavellanism: A more traditional take on the superpowered-high-school-harem-action-fantasy genre (whew) but one that doesn't take itself too seriously.
  • Sagrada Reset: Kids with powers save the world. But of course. But this time instead of making city blocks explode they rewind time and play detective. Ooooooh.
  • Sakura Quest: The long-awaited anime take on the tourism industry. The question is, how to make this interesting?
  • Seikai Suru Kado: Aliens and politics and sci fi stuff that I eat up like a starved sailor.
  • Eromanga Sensei: Way back when I kind of dismissed it based on the title, but now that I've actually read the synopsis it actually sounds warm and interesting. Really should have learned my lesson from stuff like Onani Master Kurosawa.
  • ID-0: I really liked Bubuki Buranki, so the studio behind this one has earned a hefty measure of goodwill. Also, robots in space! And cute girls. That's just so anime.
  • Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho: I hope they actually do end up destroying the world. Or at least the majority of human civilization. Would be a riot. At least this one's a proper high fantasy, none of that isekai thing.
  • Re:CREATORS: Animator vs animation, but as a fully produced anime with an eclectic cast. Oh yes, this is the kind of over-the-top crazy I signed up to anime for.
  • ATOM: More robots! And Tezuka-style androids no less. This is a good thing.

50/50

  • Frame Arms Girl: As long as they shoot at each other more and not, say, play volleyball in the middle of a match, then we are good.
  • Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine: Do I want to see a tutor get relentlessly exasperated by his wild students? ... Maybe. Does seem like that would get old fast, though.
  • Tsuki ga Kire: Uh... huh.
  • Clockwork Planet: Based on what I've read of the manga four years back... I'm somewhat lukewarm to this. It's not bad, but it's also not good at anything in particular.
  • Renai Boukun: Another one whose manga I've read. It's a rom com leaning very heavily on the com part via the classic setup of the normal lead surrounded by dysfunctional girls. Not very good, in my opinion, though the yandere is quite amusing.
  • Hinako Note: WHY ARE THEY EATING BOOKS
  • Fukumenkei Noise: Depends on how good the music is.
  • SukaSuka: Not sold on this one, especially since there's a bunch of other fantasies this season, but we'll see.

Not Watching

  • Starmyu, Boruto, Kakubibu, Twin Angel Break, Kyoukai no Rinne, Natsume Yuujinchou, and not the Nanatsu no Taizai I actually want to see.

Holy shit, this season is packed.
