  • For the 17 days of release chart, the film is tracking as well as Shazam. However, Shazam had half of Black Adam's budget, so it's a double egde sword against this film. (3:32)
  • While Black Adam is performing well above critic expectations, its $200 million budget continues to be hurdle for its long term domestic and international growth. (3:59)
  • Naturally, Black Panther could siphon its pull. Black Adam had three weeks to only pull $350 million worldwide, touching $400 by this weekend. (4:35)

Took a break from posting him, but Dan Murrell recently did an early box office analysis of this past weekend, with Spider-Verse being the centerpiece.

He also talks about the current progress of The Little Mermaid and Fast X, which seems to have inverse box office qualms. (The Little Mermaid's doing good in the US market, but straggling overseas. Fast X is doing middling business in the US, but very lively overseas.)

• 7:59: In the spirit of his past niche charts, Dan finds Spider-Verse gained the biggest opening domestic weekend growth between sequels for a comic book movie. It beats out the previous holder, The Dark Knight.

• 10:46: Recently, Dan introduced a "franchise tracker" to place the current box office gross of recent entries against their predecessors. Here we see how Spider-Verse's first weekend numbers stack up against all Spider-Man adjacent films (including Morbius).

• 23:21: Compared to other major studio offerings (live action blockbusters, animated films, or both), Dan specifically praises Spider-Verse's tight $100 million budgeting. It only needs less than a 100 million before it's officially profitable, and ride the extra money like Super Mario Bros.

It's good to see Spider-Verse having such a successful start compared to the previous one, it shows how much word of mouth from the previous films of a franchise matters. It's too soon to tell how much Across will make, but if Beyond is as well-received, I could see it getting near a billion.
