It definitely deserves a call out as both Memetic Mutation. Does Netflix’s acknowledgment make it an Ascended Meme?
Meme Acknowledgement and probably on the Funny page.

I've been watching through the series thus far, and loving it almost all the way. So far, the only bit of Hollywood science that really made me eyeroll and facepalm was the bullshit about the black hole, but from a writer point of view I get that it's there for overall tension and essentially to give everyone a time limit to escape.
Smith is basically Palpatine so far. Episode 5 especially has so much Magnificent Bastardry that it's difficult to tell where her plans ended and coincidence began.
That said, as much as I'm enjoying it, this series is one of those that relies a bit too heavily on everybody keeping secrets even when it's obvious they shouldn't. It's something I expect more from network tv than streamed tv.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I just finished this tonight, watching with my son. Overall, I've been very impressed. Specific thoughts:
- This show lives on I Knew It!, especially for the science.
- It doesn't make sense to have glaciers, temperate forest, and desert biomes crammed up against each other like a Minecraft map. The planet's eccentric orbit (thanks to the black hole) causes rapid climate change.
- We know FTL Travel must be happening because they got to another galaxy. Whose FTL was it? The human tech doesn't seem like it's quite up to that level yet. We stole a gravity drive from a crashed alien spaceship.
- How in the everlasting hell is there an alien ship that crashed at the very same time as the Jupiters? It's the ship that attacked the Resolute in the first place.
- Aliens just happen to attack the Resolute when it's on its twenty-somethingth colonization mission. They want their engine back.
- I love the characters. They act like real people and have real personal troubles. The kids are amazing, and it's hard to pick my favorite — even though Will keeps getting everyone into trouble.
- Judy is extremely competent and is an incredibly hard worker. I found her ability to get over her PTSD from the pilot a bit unbelievable, although it's well-executed.
- Penny is sweet and snarky at the same time. She always manages to crack me up. Too bad she and Vijay won't ever become a thing now...
- Will's character arc is defined by his own belief that he doesn't belong, since he failed the hyperbaric stress test. That's pretty rough for an 11-year old kid, and I don't really blame him.
- Maureen is just fantastic; she's so in charge that those moments when she isn't become extra dramatic.
- John is a goddamn badass, tanking a crowbar to the face and surviving an exploding spaceship.
- That said, the show runs on Poor Communication Kills, and the number of problems that could have been averted if people would just talk to each other is nearly soap opera level.
- Fuck "Dr. Smith". Holy shit, that woman is evil. But she's so good at manipulating people that it's frightening. I know the Robinsons have to be the "good" people, but I would have fully supported them spacing Smith at the end.
- I like what they do with the Robot, changing it from a human device to a mysterious alien force that we aren't ever completely sure that we can trust. I hope we see more of it in the second season, although how they'd pull that one off is beyond me.
- The story's reliance on Five-Second Foreshadowing, Hope Spot, and All for Nothing tricks makes the comparison with Lost In Space quite fitting, and it annoyed me at times.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"We may have a leak for the release date of season 2. A Lost in Space book scheduled for release in November 2019 said it's "Timed to coincide with the release of season 2".
The text about the release date has been removed from the Amazon preorder page, but the timing sounds about right.
Wow. I'm excited. I wonder when they'll start dropping trailers.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Is there any information on how they're going to handle Will's age in season 2? For the other characters, it's not as big a deal, but Max Jenkins is what, 13 years old now? It's really obvious when an actor portraying a canonically 10 year old character jumps two years in age between seasons, especially if S2 picks up immediately where S1 ended.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Handwave it as part of a strange side effect from the last jump to the new solar system?
And give even more ammo to the people who are determined to shit on this series? I have a feeling they'll just ignore it, although there could potentially be a phlebotinum-powered age-up. It's not totally preposterous.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Pretty sure anyone who wants to shit on the series will do so regardless of any explanation given, or for a lack of explanation too. Everyone else will shrug and not care.
Fair enough. I'm just a bit sensitive about it. This is one of the few shows in a long time to give me major feels and scratch my sci-fi itch.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Perhaps they'll have a time-skip, having the plot proper start a few years after arrival and glossing over the family's initial adjustment to their new location.
My Games & WritingThat would be quite a bummer given the cliffhanger. Maybe they could do what they did in season 1 and tell the story through flashbacks? Seems a bit unlikely, though, especially since we have Word of God that the Resolute and its crew will be a part of season 2.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ooooh... I'm all giddy now.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Just a reminder, season 2 is out now. I haven't started it yet, though.
I'm going to start it probably tomorrow. I'm super stoked and nervous at the same time.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So they handled it by second season being 7 months later
Well, I just finished the season, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were a number of points that did not go as I might have expected, especially regarding the Robot, and it continued to make for a nice dose of "hopeful science heroism", I feel. ^_^
My Games & WritingIs Dr Smith alive? We all know she’s capable of faking her death. But how would she survive that?
She would survive by climbing in one of those airtight storage boxes. We see her headband and stress ball in a box on the Jupiter. I don't know how and when they would have picked her up, but clearly they did.
I'm finally catching up, but I did notice that Netflix has confirmed a 3rd season for 2021 which will be the final season.
And here it is. Season 3 will be released December 1, 2021.
Guess who binged all of Season 3 literally AS SOON AS it dropped?
Guess who is STILL CRYING over literally everything but especially one development in particular.
SPOILERS, OBVIOUSLY: WHY'D THEY HAVE TO DO MY BOY SCARECROW LIKE THAT. THAT WASN'T FAIR. HE DESERVED A BETTER ENDING THAN THAT.
Funny, but hardly unique as the replies indicate.
