Since we were talking about it, I'm actually betting the Sixth's Quirk will help with Izuku's arm situation. Give him a reason to exist besides just filling a necessary space. The others all already have things to make them more interesting anyway.

However, I don't think it will/should be just a straight healing or regenerating Quirk. That would be too convenient.

We're Humping Academia

Anyway, something else interesting is what's on the trio's waist. They never feel the need to carry stuff before, I think? Shoto maybe carry something like first aid stuff, but it looks more like Deku's carrying that now.

Also, both of his hands are wrecked, but I thought it's his right hand that's wrecked more, not left? So it's probably just a gauntlet for Air Force. His hands do need some real serious recovery though.

The theories Ive seem is that the page showing Eight different Heroes across media(Aka the one with Spiderman, Superman, Wolverine, etc) might be in reference fo each power Deku will have.

So he's gonna be like Weapon H, that Wolverine/Hulk hybrid? tongue

And yes that is a real thing by Marvel.

He'd also have the power to grow Huge, since it also had Ultraman.

@ Omega Radiance

Well, Float kind of covers Superman while Blackwhip covers Spiderman. And Wolverine's real power is his regenerative ability, his adamantium claws are an addition.

If that theory holds true, then Deku will also have a regenerative Quirk.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.

Could you provide a link to this page?

[up]The adamantium skeleton is due to experiments, but the claws themselves are natural.

Well, the seven heroes in the picture here were:

It's easy to see how some of them correspond with the known Quirks:
  • Nana's Float combined with the Stockpile aspect pretty much makes her a Supergirl.
  • Daigoro's Blackwhip pays obvious homage to Spidey.
  • The First User had no Quirk outside of the Transfer Quirk, so he'd fit Gekko Kamen.
So that leaves a Healing Factor, a Sizeshifter, and a Super-Soldier quirk. As for The Berserker... remember how Midoriya starts acting like a feral animal after Tomura impales Gran Torino? Think he may have been accessing it a little early.

Page 3 of the very first chapter. The one with the glowing baby. (also it was Seven Heroes so I got that one messed up)

Hmmmm, well Horikoshi does love gigantification as a superpower, that's obvious already.

If that theory turns out to be correct, then it would line up nicely with the Fourth User being related to Destro's family. As we've seen, Re-Destro's Quirk lets him alter his size.

I bet it originally wasn't much of a size difference. But now....

It still fits since Toshinori had yet to pass One For All to Izuku and was also Quirkless so he had no new ability to pass on to One For All.

[up][up]

I bet that Izuku will have dragon wings or something at this rate.

I'm just confused how a Kamen Rider esq Quirk would work. Would it let Midoriya generate a suit of armor? Reinforce his skin, muscles, and bones to make him more durable? Enhance his physical parameters overall but for a brief period of time based on how much energy he has left?

Yep, he's going to have seven Quirks in all, that we know. Which makes All Might even having a ghost inside of OFA weird, but we'll see where that goes.

Here's a thought: do you think the whole Bakugo rescue bit would have been better if some one had actually alerted the authorities to what the five that went after Bakugo were doing?

Or, for that matter, maybe not give the kids such a smooth rescue?

[up]I honestly doubt it. AFO would probably have caused as much damage as the present. Besides, neither the students nor the heroes knew which location had AFO waiting

I'm not talking about the operation running more smoothly, I'm talking about if you'd think it would work better from a writing standpoint.

Well, it was only "smooth" because of all the heroes involved. All Might was keeping AFO pinned, Mt. Lady walled the League's attempts to catch up, and Gran Torino had knocked out all of the League's ranged fighters.

It explicitly only worked because of those circumstances, and the narrative makes this clear, especially with All Might keeping AFO from trying to prevent them from escaping.

Honestly, I think it worked well. The heroes are competent, the villains only don't succeed because of the adults' intervention, and it's a strong friendship moment between Kirishima and Bakugou.

>Gekko Kamen

A quick google tells me that one of his tools is a whip. So maybe Daigoro is Gekko? No powers beyond that he's peak human condition.

>Ultraman.

Another quick google tells me he has a special beam attack, a metal skin with extreme resistances, fights with brute strength, teleportation and size changing abilities.

>Devilman

Enhanced physique, claws and horns, wings, lightning from his horns, a form of slow aging and healing?

>Kamen Rider

Other than peak human physique, seems to have nothing special going on. Maybe this represents the First user?

>Superman

The list of powers he had at various points is too long and included things like copying himself. But the iconic set is laser eyes, super senses, immense durability, immense strength and flight. Sans laser eyes, this is basically Nana.

> Wolverine

Technically his "quirk" is that he has claws *and* healing. His metal claws and adamantium skeleton are both the result of experiments.

>Spider-Man

Spider sense. Webs are often a technological innovation. Other than that, wall-sticking (hello, Spinner!) and superhuman physique.

The funny thing is that there's quite a bit of overlap? Strong humans with enhanced capabilities and a few minor powers? Devilman and Wolverine both use claws. Devilman and Superman can both fly. Both Kamen are regular humans with tools, and Spiderman also regularly uses them. Healing factors are a common element, as are super durability. Super senses are also a common element.

Other influences we know about:

Goku: Although he is a saiyan, he's nothing special and everything he is is because he trained hard and met the right people. Also, All Might is based on how horikoshi felt when Goku arrived on Namek, meaning that the "hero" who represents him is probably Goku. Also appropriate in that Goku went from nobody to god, and also is probably still far more powerful than he really knows.

Naruto: It seems to influence Horikoshi's side characters more than main characters, see Aizwawa, Oboro, Dabi. Although size shifting was a thing, as was spiritual armor.

One Piece: seems to influence the world building more than characters.

I'm just curious because I sort of stumbled into a Twitter thread about this, because apparently people are still hung up about Tsuyu's comments to try and convince them to not go.

Which I never understood. Like, even if you think it should have been phrased a bit differently, "leave things to the actual police and heroes, and don't launch a reckless mission on your own" just sounds... obvious.

I agree them going was handled as best it could, but it does sort of weaken one of the intended points, I think.

Well, Aizawa mentioned his disapproval of it and he would have expelled most of 1-A o nthe spot for it if not for All Might's retirement. I get why you'd say it weakens the point though.

The concept of To Be Lawful or Good and Arrested for Heroism is a recurring motif throughout the story. Here, being lawful and being good aren't necessarily in conflict, but Izuku's Chronic Hero Syndrome clashing with the realities and legalities of hero work felt right to me. Sure, it worked out this time, but everyone present realized how badly things could have gone wrong, and Aizawa's ultimatum was kind of just the icing on that cake.

It does open up points of discussion about All Might's example of heroism, as he teaches Izuku to stick his nose where it doesn't belong, when all of society's rules say otherwise.

Yeah, but a lot of people resent that, actively try not to see it. To them, the fact that things worked out just means that anyone saying anything different is being unreasonable and should shut up.

AFO's presence alone gave all the kids visions of their impending doom. And no one in the group ever looks back on this moment with pride either.

Izuku's recurring phrase, "I'm so fortunate/lucky" mainly refers to him receiving AFO, but it also perfectly encapsulates a lot of his experiences at U.A. He acknowledges that he never gets by solely on his own merits, and a lot of his dumber stunts only worked because luck was on his side that time. After this point, he charges off on his own two more times: against Gentle, and even then, the teachers scold him for not calling in backup sooner, as that's what the adults are there for. The other occasion is more justified in that Shigaraki was after him specifically, so he was trying to limit collateral. Even then, Gran Torino is needed to save him and Bakugou from being dusted.

I think Horikoshi does a good job of balancing the ideal of heroism versus the reality, as in the main plot, it's almost never just up to the kids, and things almost always involve having the more experienced pros covering for them in some way.

Aizawa is at least keen enough to realize that things are getting more dangerous and that the kids are going to be thrust into these kinds of situations whether they like it or not. So he signs them all up for the licensing exam so they can sidestep the To Be Lawful or Good problem, but that also opens up a new can of worms about whether or not the kids are truly ready to jump into these kinds of situations.
