[up][up] Again, this is new. If YMMV or WMG was new, people might not understand them either.

[up]Except they're not new, and I'm pretty sure they predate namespaces altogether.

The ATT thread notes that the page looked like a GCPTR subpage, which suggests that most people still aren't even used to the new GCPTR restrictions, much less the new items made to cover the misuse. Do we want to make it clear as possible where people should move Radar misuse, or do we want the Radar misuse to keep piling up while the other items get forgotten?

For now, it might be possible to put a header on the DIH pages explaining the situation.

If you have to explain the namespace from the beginning, then it's a bad namespace.

Note that I linked to Demographically Inappropriate Humor at the top of the page and it still wasn't clear to people.

Can we get some mod input on this?

While I've been following this thread idly, I haven't been paying specific attention to the actions that have been taken. Perhaps a recap would be useful. Are we replacing Getting Crap Past the Radar with Demographically Inappropriate Humour? That seems like it would be problematic as not all content in Radar is "humor". Are we transferring Radar examples that are jokes to DIH?

I also recognize the namespace problem. There isn't a concise, unambiguous subpage namespace for DIH other than the full trope name, and DIH will invariably lead to confusion.

[up] DIH is meant to catch Radar misuse. Not everything is being transferred, and sometimes there can be overlap.

Hmm. So it's really just the namespace that's the issue, then?

I don't remember the length limit for namespaces off the top of my head, but have we tried DemographicallyInappropriateHumor?

I think so. The issue is, the title limit exists, and if pages can't be made because the namespace is too long, well...

Demographically Inappropriate Humor is meant to cover the "deliberate adult (as in sex/drug/etc, not just any Parental Bonus) jokes in a kids' show" usage of GCPTR — for example, the page image was moved from Radar.Western Animation since it's a sex joke in a kids' show. So most Radar examples will be moved there if they fit that criteria.

The namespace can fit, as I did make a subpage with it without any issue (and the full show title was longer than most), I just initially worried it might be clunky. Now I've changed my mind and prefer the full name while others are still worried about the clunkiness issue. I didn't use "Humor" because the page was launched with "Humour" and I'm pretty sure we don't make subpages with redirect spellings.

[down] I didn't mean "Humor" should be the namespace, I mean that the trope is named Demographically Inappropriate Humour with the Commonwealth spelling so using Demographically Inappropriate Humor would probably not be accurate.

Yeah, no. Besides, Humor (or Humour) might be confused with Funny. [up][up]The title length limit (64 characters) is independent of the namespace length limit. Not an issue.

Well. Darn.

There looked to be agreement that DIH/ was better than Demographicallyinappropriatehumour/ because the latter is really freaking long and prone to spelling issues. I've indexed DIH.The Amazing World Of Gumball to see if that clears up confusion, but I won't do anything to Demographicallyinappropriatehumour. The Amazing World Of Gumball for now.

I did also suggest Inappropriate/ as the namespace, but there were concerns that might attract P5 violations.

The color/colour thing with the namespace is a concern. We don't officially mandate that trope titles use one or the other spelling, but it is irritating to see it be inconsistent.

I have a quick question about GCPR if during production an extremely clearly intentional play on an inappropriate word was proposed as a name for a character but ended up getting rejected for that reason. If it doesn't qualify as GCPR what does it qualify as?

GCPTR requires the inappropriate content to actually be used in the work, so that might be something like What Could Have Been.

[up] That's just an entirely new trope name at that point.

Also the namespace seems to not actually affect the title length like I thought, so why are we even driving ourselves nuts over it at this point? We're impeding the cleanup process by not just going with the clearest option.

Because it's long and clunky; there's a reason the GCPTR namespace is Radar/ and not Gettingcrappasttheradar/. Plus it has humour in it, and that's one of those fun words that countries can't agree on how to spell.

Yeah, like maybe the humor/humour thing won’t cause problems, but I find it extremely unlikely that it won’t. There’s real problems with all options here, but while people do eventually adjust to new rules, the different spellings of humo(u)r aren’t going to go away over time.

Are we officially making it a namespace here? I was just seeing it as making subpages. I mean, DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything.Infinity Train Blossoming Trail is a page that exists without abbreviation for example.

[up][up][up] Maybe we should have just gone with "comedy" huh?

[up] That could work.

By definition, a subpage is in a namespace. I loathe trope-specific subpage namespaces and wish we could do away with them, but until we get a better example management system, we're stuck with the problem.

[up] I do wonder if that one of the reasons GCPTR saw misuse was because the namespace being "Radar" watered down the meaning of the trope name.

I think that our criteria for establishing subpages are too loose, with people doing it upon seeing as few as three examples for a trope. It makes me wonder if we're classifying some of these things properly. Getting Crap Past the Radar, for example, isn't really a trope because there's no consistent narrative pattern or meaning to these events. It's really Trivia and should be treated as such.

Ugh. So many bad decisions made in the past haunt us now.

[up] Yeah, I don't know why we didn't make it Trivia when we redefined it!

Also we are likely gonna have DIH subpages cuz most of the stuff from Radar subpages will be moved there, but if I can move a significant amount without bloating the YMMV page (like with The Powerpuff Girls), I will just do that. Gumball needed a subpage cuz it has a lot of dirty jokes.
