About 20 years ago, Eldritchian monsters from a far off unknown planet began attacking Earth. In response the U.N. set up a worldwide organisation called S.E.R.V.E. to fight these creatures, funding a lot of money to develop Humongous Mechas more powerful and strong to face them in the form of a Motion-Capture Mecha.

Now these mechs come in many shapes, sizes and modes to be used in fighting these creatures. And all of you have been chosen to pilot them in a futuristic city covered in a dome to prevent any monster from getting in or out. While all humans in the city go underground during every monster attack, protected by the reinforced ground above them.

But along the way you may just discover the truth about the monsters are really doing here and what conspiracy S.E.R.V.E. has planned up.

Yes my first attempt at an RP here at TV Tropes is a Humongous Mecha / Super Robot Genre one.

My increased interest in anime and giant robots just being plain awesome caused me try and set this up.

This RPG takes inspiration from many films (Pacific Rim mostly even though it hasn't come out), anime and shows that I either have or haven't seen. And yes EVA is one inspiration I haven't seen despite my best intentions. The Humongous Mecha RP: This Is (Not) A Rip-Off.

It's a Genre Busting RP. With a mix of Action / Horror / Sci-Fi / Humongous Mecha/ Cosmic Horror Story / Psychological Horror and Drama.

You had me at mecha.

And do you happen to have an example of what the average metal man is packing? As well as about how tall you'd say they are? I know you said they come in all shapes and sizes, but my neurosis makes me always want to know if a mech is closer to 20 feet or 20 meters (Or even bigger) to make it easier to visualize someone standing on the shoulder, forgetting their keys.

Honestly I'm not very good with maths or specifically saying how tall something is without checking with a ruler.

To be honest I'd imagine the mechas in this RP to be as tall as an average skyscraper. 20 feet or taller I guess.

Do all Mechas have a humanoid shape, or could we pilot giant animals? What are all the types of Mecha in this setting, and will our player characters be only normal humans (for a given value)?

When I say Types I mean how varied are the functions and specialties of the mechas? When I say normal human for a given value would there be any half-human projects or people with superhuman abilities?

Well with types I guess it can be whatever you like. There are various modes these mechas can go into for any situation (Stealth, Underwater, Desert, Space, Berserk, Ultimate)

There's no humans with superpowered abilities.

I'll probably get to writing my two main characters soon.

Will the mechas be Slow, ponderous things that punch with the force of metorites and are armed with guns that can level cites? Or are they swift, lithe aerodynamic fighting machines that rely on the skill and audacity of their pilots to carry the day?

Honestly it depends on the mech. As the description said they come in various shapes and sizes which also means varying weights. So it's really up to the player on how they want their mech to be. This of course means the player can customise anything about their character and mech. As long as it's fine with me.

• Appearance: Dark brown hair and eyes. Casual clothing. Glasses.
• Personality: Nerdy, snarky and has a fine sense of humour but is serious when he needs to be. He's also rather anti-social.
• History: His parents worked on the mecha project for SERVE, allowing him to gain some expertise on how the mechas work. After his parents died in a monster attack, they left him keys and a map to the SERVE HQ where they left him the mech Mexa-One to be piloted by him, much to his surprise and happiness.
• Mecha Name: Mexa-One
  • Mecha Appearance: Humanoid. Skyscraper sized. Coloured blue and black.

• Name: Summer Turing
• Age: 17
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: Brunette hair and brown eyes. Casual clothing.
• Personality: Nice, sweet but nervous, she tries to stay positive most of the time.
• History: Her parents also worked on the mecha project for SERVE, but she never really cared for it but still gained some info on them. After her parents died in the same monster attack as Dan's, they also left her keys and a map to the SERVE HQ where they left her the mech Nexus-One to be piloted by her, much to her surprise and reluctance.

Uh... Sorry if I'm being nitpicky, but 20 feet isn't exactly skyscraper sized. It's barely even bungalow sized (or more along the lines of about roughly three or four times bigger than the average human). I think you got feet and meters mixed up.

As an example, the RX-78-2 Gundam is about 18 meters tall, which in feet is roughly... 60 feet? About that, I think. What kind of scale were you going for? Give me an example of the kind of series your basing sizes on and I'll see if I can figure out a more appropriate size for your mecha, okay?

I'm just horrible with maths and measurement alright and it isn't my biggest problem with this RP but thanks for the tip.

• Personality: Very proud, self-assertive and independent, Emil is the quintessential Airforce Maverick. Made even worse by his nationality's natural disposition for arrogance. But when it comes down to it, Emil will prove that he can easily back up all his boasting, though his extremely reckless and audacious fighting style aren't winning him any friends in the maintenance crews.
• History: Originally a cadet at the French Airforce, It had always been Emil's dream to be a pilot along with everything that entails with the Job. But then the extraterrestrial invaders came and quickly showed humankind that the age of the fighter jet was over. Embittered by having his dream shattered, Emil almost consigned himself to an empty, unfulfilled life as a cargo plane pilot until talent scouts from S.E.R.V.E found him and offered him a chance to become the Ace he always wanted to be...
• Mecha Name: Epine Noir
• Mecha Appearance: Intimidating◊. It stands 65 feet tall and is geared for high-speed aerial combat despite it's unaerodynamic shape.
• Mecha weapons:
  • Ribault Quadruple linear cannon: A quartet of rapid-fire linear cannons mounted on the back, each cannon fires a 7.5kg slug of hyperdense metal at any alien abomination that is unlucky enough to be right in front of the Epine Noir at a rate of 15 rounds per minute. When the cannons are fired one after the other, the quad weapon can achieve a rate of fire of 60 RPM.
  • Falchion Assault rifle w/under-slung vibroblade: A 90mm smoothbore tank gun modified to be a gigantic mech-scale semi-automatic rifle. The under-slung vibroblade is rated at least 14 on the Mohs scale and is easily capable of bisecting a small hill, bedrock and all.
  • Pioche plasma cannon: An experimental energy weapon capable of firing a blast of artificial lighting more than capable of turning a structure as large as the Chinese Bird's Nest arena and everything that happens to be near it into nothing but ash.
  • Martell Laser Bazooka: Epine Noir's trump card, An ultra high-power solid-state laser cannon carried on the right hand and powerful enough to one-shot even the largest and strongest alien strains, provided that it's fired on a weak spot; But even if it wasn't fired on one, the pulse will still leave a mark. The Bazooka can only be fired once every 3 minutes and every time it's is fired, Epine Noir's boosters will stop working for 5 seconds in order to cool down and recharge it's generator.

Kind of considering joining, eh-heh, but, um, I'm not sure if either of my character ideas would work at all.

By the by, since the only anime I watch is Zoids Chaotic Century, I may accidentaly type 'Zoid' instead of 'Mech' or 'Mecha'. Sorry if I do.

Right, um...

Would a child pilot be okay? The idea is that she's a prodigy, so, um... yeah, eh-heh.

My other idea I'm also not entirely sure on, since, um, she's an artificial human.

Hell yes. I want in on this. How tough are these monsters? I wanted to play a grappling-themed mech centered around RIP AND TEAR, but if it's suicide to get within spitting distance I'm not sure that'd be smart. And what about specific gadgets and weapons for your mech? You might want to make that another field for the profile.

Yeah your mech can not have weapons but make up for with abilities.

The monsters we'll be facing are varying on how tough they are and as I said they are Eldritchian.

As for all the weapons. Well there's plenty and I could make a full list later on today when I have time. I didn't put them as an option in the profile because the weapons are all available to all the pilots except for those who don't want them.

Character One:

• Name: Hasegawa Chie
• Age: 10
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: "I don't have time for you, I'm drawing."
• Personality: Chie has a personality that greatly contrasts her small, childish body. She has a tendency to be deeply sarcastic towards others if she decides they deserve to be treated with sarcasm, and she often quietly teases others. She enjoys drawing, and has a deep interest in anime, manga, and video games, which she pursues whenever she is able to. Chie often draws or writes about these things, though her writing is significantly more childish then her art. In spite of her thick layer of sarcasm, she does still have the personality of a child and is surprisingly easily frightened. Chie also enjoys cosplay, to the point of having been reprimanded for coming to school in cosplay before.
• History: A child prodigy from a rich family, Chie jumped ahead from elementary school to High School, proving to be surprisingly knowledgeable and holding a massive potential for being a pilot. Her skill was such that she was scouted for piloting.
• Mecha Name: The PMX-000. Chie calls it "Boom-chan"
  • Mecha Appearance: "Target acquired. Commencing lock-on. Lock-on successful. Arming missiles... missiles armed. Prepare to be destroyed."◊
  • Armaments and Abilities: The PMX-000 is an extremely heavily-armed mecha. Featuring the ability to both fly and move on the ground by adjusting the modes of its feet via voice commands, it is quite a mobile mecha. However, it is notable that its inborn shield systems are weak, a compensation to allow it to have as much weaponry as possible. The armor, however, is still quite sturdy. The PMX-000 features huge arm-mounted missile launchers, as well as cluster missile launchers in its massive shoulder pads. In addition, its body houses smaller missile launchers.
