@Gaon;

So boxers should be humble like Mcgregor, modest like Mayweather and sexually decent like Mike Tyson. There's also a Russian boxer with some interesting behavior I could bring up. Just can't remember his name.

Please spare me the purity gospel. I am already thinking of who to pick a feud (and box) with just because of this.

Boxers should be boxers, not irresponsible children playing at boxing in a stupid publicity stunt. I won't pontificate about the difference between someone like George Foreman and KSI because I'm pretty sure anyone with a working braincell can see it, so I'd be talking to a wall. I also fail to see exactly how the sins of previous Boxers matter at all, particularly since I explicitly called attention to Tyson's behavior. You're fighting strawmen you yourself built and arguing against things I never said. But Fact of the matter is: Both Tyson and Mayweather are actual boxers, who took the sport seriously, pushed their bodies and minds to the limit and placed their lives in the line for guts and glory. Reducing it to "two young adults with inflated egos and negligible training riging a match for publicity" is a disrespect to the "sweet science" itself.

Admiring this boneheaded stunt (or seeking to replicate it) betrays a fundamental ignorance and lack of understanding for the most basic aspects of "the noble art". If you want to go down that path, there's nothing I (or indeed, anyone with a basic grasp of the vague definition of "boxing") can help you with so you might as well just ignore everything I'm saying and carry on your merry way.

You also shot yourself in the foot here by calling Mcgregor (A MMA fighter) a Boxer. Hell, while we're on the "Notorious One", his match with Mayweather was also a dull publicity stunt unbecoming of the sport, but at least he was an actual fighter who more than earned his stripes in his own field, rather than whatever the Hell these two are.

One of the ways I enjoy myself is making a writing career out of writing about Boxers plus watching and practicing Boxing as of itself, and over the years you learn to respect it and not treat is like a joke. This naturally means I take some offense to this shinding, but this whole "brah take a chillpill and nejoy yourself" nonsense is a condescending as it is insulting. I'm giving my peace of mind (about a youtube publicity stunt, I'd like note, so sharing what I think of it is really the purpose of this thread), not going hysterical.

But since this all seems settled, we can always move on.

Could have fooled me with that tremendous dig on me and other Social Media guys. I don't think these publicity fights are treating boxing like a joke.

But then it really seems like this is Serious Business for you to a degree that it just isn't in my case.

So I'll agree to let it go.

[up]The Famous Hearts Of Iron 4 Youtuber I Sorrow Productions has been preparing for a video called "Artillery Only" after many months. Artillery is considered to be one of the weakest division types in Hearts of Iron 4. I Sorrow Productions told his fans to spam in Pew Die Pie's videos. The fans took it further by spamming in other outlets and channels. This is reminiscent of the Lizard Army created by Leafy Is Here.

Well there's them finally giving the boot to Alex Jones.

Even if it was rather late for them to do so.

[up] That and labeling the YouTube accounts of well-known state-sponsored media (though only in the US).

Well, it's been a couple of months since the removal of the YouTube's "Scrappy Mechanic" page, and YouTube has become a bit more brazen in posting what I'd like to call "unskippable skippable ads" on the Smart TV version of its app.

How do they do this, you ask? Five- to six-second ads, with the skip button activating only after six or seven seconds...which basically forces viewers to watch the entire ad without giving them a chance to skip it.

Shit like that is what happens when people don't have an outlet where they are free to criticize a company's questionable actions.

Well, they do, for things like whatever new feature You Tube's bored programmers decided to cook up, but its not like they actually listen to whatever feedback they receive.

More like "Out-of-touch programmers." There's a lot of those nowadays, not just on YT, but also in the videogame industry ("triple A" or "free-to-play").

Of course, they do listen once the aforementioned problems are raised elsewhere on the Internet—especially when the official channels that are supposed to hear consumers' grievances or complaints are downright inutile.

... so hey um...... heres an idea. Instead of running a 5-second-long add with a button that says "you can skip it after 5 seconds", why not just run the unskippable ad??

Or better yet, just have it skippable from the get-go.

The Dom talks about his experience becoming a professional youtuber.

The real eye opener is when he talks about how female youtubers have it bad on the network. The Movie Chick takes over and talks about her own experiences, including the kind of comments she gets. It's... sort of disheartening.

My personal favourites are when they decide to show a music video for who knows who. It always happen when i'm on a playlist and i leave my phone running.

I haven't experienced any of those unskippable ads, usually because i straight up run adblockers on Youtube because ads became unbearable. Except for youtubers i like

[up]x6 to [up]x3: I'm talking about the Smart TV app. (I even included a Wikipedia link to the article in the ScrappyMechanic/YouTube page before it was cut.) Unfortunately, no one has made an adblocker for Smart TV users as of this post. If there was, I'd have installed that in a heartbeat.

I do most of my YouTube watching on Smart TV because, 1) bigger screen, 2) the resolution can now be manually adjusted (after not having it before), and 3) the Smart TV itself is connected to a sound system.

TBH, I vacillate between "I do not want an Advert-Overloaded Future in Real Life" and "I would not mind YT ads if showing one guarantees income for channels I like—whether I skip those ads or not."

However, those same out-of-touch developers and advertisers have a nasty habit of making it frustrating for the YT content creators dependent on ad revenue and annoying for the viewer. Also, I hate it when a certain product or brand is already ubiquitous on local TV/radio/newspapers, and yet they want "more, more, more..." ("It ain't me! It ain't me! I ain't no fortunate son!")

But why should the content creator receive income if you skip the ad? And, from your perspective, what's the difference between a 30 second ad you can skip after the first 5 seconds, and a 5 second ad that you're just unable to skip?

On a different topic:

Lately, whenever I go to full screen view on a You Tube video, there's now a scroll bar showing up on the right side of the screen that I can't get rid of. While it covers up a very small portion of the video, it's still super-annoying and doesn't seem to serve any function. Anyone know what that's about?

But why should the content creator receive income if you skip the ad?
Because advertising companies should keep their end of the bargain (that is, properly paying content creators for ads that play on the latter's channels) and not be f**king cheapskates who withhold payment if the ad plays for a few seconds before being skipped—or in the case of the five-second unskippable ad, the annoyed Smart TV viewer just presses the "back" button and try to play the actual video he/she is watching.

Usually, most video ads already have the brand or product name mentioned while it plays (except for a few video ads that do not mention what brand or product they're promoting—textbook psychological manipulation to make the viewer watch the ad). Isn't the mere mention of the brand or product name enough? Also, they already have a ubiquitous presence on old media (free and cable TV, radio, newspapers and magazines, billboards) anyway.

But come to think about it, some content creators do have the occasional tie-up with a brand or product and have it promoted on their actual video. That or a Patreon page. But I digress.

what's the difference between a 30 second ad you can skip after the first 5 seconds, and a 5 second ad that you're just unable to skip?
Freedom of choice. In this case, the choice to freely skip an ad (after a few seconds) versus removing the choice to skip the ad.

P.S.: Is there a way to actively search for the actual video ads that play on YouTube, or are they not on the searchlist because of the possible dislikes that are sure to ensue once annoyed viewers find it?

You’ve got the bargain wrong, the advertisers agree to pay for full views in their ads, not a partial view, that’s the deal youtuebrs sign up for.

They uphold their end as long as people watch the ads, I watch ads on videos of youtuebrs I support because I care about them getting paid, if you don’t care then feel free to skip, but don’t act like the ads company is doing anything sneaky.

The sneaky ads are the ones with a blank page for a while at the end so people would be inclined to skip even if they’ve watched the full ad, shit I remember the days of ads that would say “you can skip now” with an arrow to the skip button, though I suspect that You Tube killed them off.
