At the same time though I want to listen to any counterpoints or disagreements because I'm probably taking Tv Tropes' labels too seriously or overvaluing them (like somehow that's possible) and going off the deep end.

Kodaka Hints at the possibility of a new DanganRonpa down the line.

He's not opposed to bringing Kotaro Uchikoshi (Zero Escape Trilogy, Ai The Somnium Files) along for the ride either.

Kinda, yeah.

It's main games' messages are "society can be scary but it's a place to be entered with optimism", "there's no mistake that's irreversible" and "think critically to understand and appreciate how all the media you consume affects you", so they're not saccharine shows by any means, but they're definitely relatively far on the optimistic side of things.

Honestly, I'd love to see a game revolving around the Danganronpa reality show's western fanbase. What would an American season of Danganronpa look like? What would they have to change in order for the show to appeal to western audiences? Would rules get lost in translation? What if all of the contestants were aware that they were signing up for a reality show? The conflict between faith and clarity and how things get lost in adaptation could be good themes for a Danganronpa game, and the aesthetics of western reality competition shows could be really fitting, too.

I don't think all your ideas would work together. If it's American and everyone knows it's a show, there are bound to be fans of the other reality competition shows in there, which negatively affects the game.

Admittedly part of this is V3's rule for a tied vote at the class trial (it counts as successful), which would be changed if participants abuse it, similar to how a certain other reality show changed its rules when people started deliberately tying votes.

Maybe the main cast is unaware that Danganronpa is a show, but they're brainwashed into following some kind of script, like how it's typical of American reality shows to be heavily scripted and edited in favor of certain contestants winning. Or they are aware that it's a show, but they were all brainwashed into forgetting their old lives before the killing game and given scripted personalities. That wouldn't be revealed until later on though, sort of like how it was handled in V3. Regardless, I bet the mastermind in a game like this would be a power-hungry producer who keeps meddling with things to induce as much despair as possible or something.

Speaking of motivations, one idea I had was that certain people involved in the production of the show justified it - in some cases, to the government - that they were identifying “problem children”, i.e. people who were dangerous enough to commit murder. Giving the world hope by removing those who would cause despair, in other words.

I've run three Danganronpa R Ps. Two are about Cloning Blues and one is about trolls.
