[up][up]

I'm also confused with the swastika stuff. Bolsonaro isn't a nazi, right? I mean he is still a fascist and a lot of other -ist garbage, but I don't remember reading anything that said he is a nazi. So, is he a nazi or is that just Brazilian alt-rights (or whatever the f*ck they are called there) stuff?

Trump isn't a Neo-Nazi either, but he enjoys support from American Neo-Nazis.

[up] Yeah, but Trump is more or less a white supremacist and therefore, I could see the connection between him and the Neo-Nazi.

I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.

Bolsonaro is, if anything, even more open on white supremacism. He has made statements before about how black communities are composed of fat, lazy slobs who probably aren't even good for reproducing, and how the Natives have no actual right to their land and landowners are 100% right on effectively slaughtering them.

And of course, his whole "kill all criminals" is, I'm sure, entirely unrelated to the fact a sizeable chunk of the criminal population consists of Afro-Brazilians.

This among many reasons is why Brazilian posters have been regarding his almost certain win with dread and consider him worse than Trump.

When it comes to Bolsonaro, I often think of a famous quote WWII (don't remember who said it): "Those who ask us what we're fighting for, come here and see what we're fighting against."

So you know who thinks Bolsonaro is too much? Marine Le Pen.

More specifically, she said that he "says unpleasant things that would be unacceptable in France.

Granted, she says she doesn't consider him a "far-right" candidate but guys, Marine Le Pen thinks he needs to tone it down and wants to distance herself from this guy. I guess she must be a communist too now?

To talk about something about my country.

Well. We captured and jailed to our Populist Right Wing leader, Keiko Fujimori, daughter of ex-dictator Alberto Fujimori. She is going to be judged for corruption and some sources are starting to call her party a "Criminal organization" for their links with the drug dealers (there any negative group that isn't related to the drug deal? It almost looks like a AD for Drugs Are Bad)

And about Alberto, he got back in jail due to the Congress deciding that his indult wasn't worth. He isn't in jail yet due to health issues, but he's pretty custoded. His party put a seemingly humanitarian law about allowing old people to be put in Home Arrest which was pretty much a excuse, but of course, there more issues keeping Alberto in jail. Like, you know, being guilty of Crimes Against Humanity.

Calling other people communists is the brazilian equivalent of Godwin's Law, at this point, if it wasn't already.

[up]Yep.

I even had my uncle ask me if I was a Petista because I defended Lula's right of a fair trial and for saying that convicting him in the second stance was potentially harmful decision because it had become a political trial instead of a criminal one.

Seriously, I am mostly center wing and I still would be called a commie, because god forbid you think that having rights, focusing in restorative justice instead of punitive justice and that social programs and wealth redistribution are more healthy for a long term capitalistic society than the current more Misses less Marx mantra that is being parroted by every idiot who didn't read a book and learned politics from Facebook memes.

Technically not behind bars due to his poor health. But there armed guards vigilating his hospital room with a arrest order.

Which is basically jail already. So I'm fine with it. I don't wanna torture the man, but at this point, our goverment need to make clear that he's getting punishment for his crime. We're Peru, we need to show that democracy is back and how better to do it than keeping the former dictator in jail.

So, this happened. (Link in portuguese, sorry.) 'Course, his fanbase's already crying out "Fake News!".

Basically, it turns out that high-profile businesses have been involved in an illegal scheme where they pay loads of money to spam fake news through social media that undermines PT and makes Captain Torture seem like a hero, or a victim. It has been confirmed to influence the elections in MG, where a candidate who initially was in third, suddenly shot to first after a wave of news linking his support to Bolsonaro. I think the same happened in RJ.

Here's the thing: this practice is, again, illegal. It's dirty money used to influence the elections, and it's working. The tribunal can, and is able to investigate such a case, and if it's determined to be truly illegal and an actual thing that's happening, the candidate associated with those fake news is completely barred from participating in the elections, or, if already elected, can be removed from power.note

I guess the TSE really doesn't want Brazil to follow in America's footsteps.

If Capt. Torture gets barred from the elections, the candidate who placed third in the first round will thus join the second round in his place. Apparently, Haddad wants that to be the case. However, this sadly doesn't seem like something to be counted on - the TSE seems to be resisting demands to investigate this case, citing the amount of fake news spreaded "isn't that high".

[up] Oh wow. The same techniques used to propel Trump are being applied for the candidate fusion of him and Pence too? Like in that case, it will probably be investigated, but since there is no direct link to Bolsonaro, he'll win the election anyway.

Life is unfair...

[up] Like I said, even if the candidate had nothing to do with the fake news, with no acutal link, or even awareness of it, they can still be barred from participating - mostly because of the actual effects of said fake news rather than the candidate's involvement.

The biggest problem here is that they may not want to bother investigating it, since we're so close to the day of the elections. It's possible that such an investigation would only happen after the 28th. Lord knows the far-right candidate's psychotic fanbase would be MEGA PISSED if that happens after the elections...

As much as I wanted to take this news in a optimistically manner, truth is that if Captain Torture (kudos for the nickname, btw) wants to start a coup, with the 60% of approval (last time I read) he is more than capable of doing so.

Hell, some tend to forget, but '64 military dictatorship was put in place with the support of the people, or at least the part of it that had any actual voice at the time.

(No problem on the nickname. I usually do whatever I can to avoid referring to him by his name.)

And yeah, good point. History loves to repeat itself. But I know there would, at the very least, be a layer of people who vote for Dictatorship Fanboy simply for being Anti-PT or for genuinely thinking he's democratic while PT isn't, and they probably would see Mr. Stuck-In-The-Cold-War suddenly doing a coup to take power by force as a small sip of how bad he actually is.

Plus... there's the small part of me that wants to believe he won't succeed in his coup. If it's clearly done in an anti-democratic way and out of spite for being taken out of the elections, it'd be a less-favourable scenario than if he were already sitting comfortably in power, then did a self-coup to make sure he'd never have to quit.

In my opinion, Bolsonaro doesn't really need to stage a coup. Why bother, when his party has a large number of seats in Congess, he broadly has the support of the army, much of the press, and of course the public. All he needs to do is put up a democratic pretense, give his supporters "red meat" by continuing his hateful rhetoric, all the while putting a bunch of his cronies and supporters in positions of power and making deals with the wealthy families who own much of the country to churn out even more fake news to support his regime. Basically, subverting democracy in his favor, but not anything super overt.

Of course, when his four years are up, then it all depends on how popular he is at that point. If he loses or feels like he's going to lose, then yeah I can see the coup happening, probably using the same "red scare" tactics that propped up both Getulio Vargas and the military's dictatorship in the past.

Well, problem with that is that it requires Capt. Macho Man to actually be able to strategize that far, when evidence points to him being every inch the hot-blooded brain-dead idiot his voters are.

Just gonna leave the link here.

I am honestly out of words.

Edit: Great news, everyone! There's no need to wait for the end of the elections to celebrate the start of another far-right dictatorship, it's already here!
