@Delvarian: De-creepyifing, examples re-write and trimming (or cut if it gets out of hand like it did for other tropes), and some IP talk about whether or not the image is NSFW. If that approach doesn't work, we trim the description and lock the page.

Only two tropes were officially cut for getting out of hand. Things like Dominatrix wouldn't be trimmed like this if not for the fact that we're threatened. We can't really complain about the solution. It's bad, but we'd better be safe than sorry.

Trouble with the zazzle merch is that its out of date, we've renamed or hidden on the darth some of the trope names on it. That cuts into its selling value. If we could get some picture designs (any arty tropers?) and tie them into some of the more individualistic trope names (dig out some of our remaining anime terms, and shove a Japanesque design on it, since the anime fans are always good for a few bob) and shove them on one of those 24 hour buy-it-now-or-lose-it-forever bulk sale sites. That way we'd be selling artwork with higher desirability than the rather basic and dated looking zazzle merch.

I was going to say discussions about the merch should go to the existing thread, but its pretty relevant to the new situation, so...

First order of business is definitely to make the shop more visible (or visible at all), and second we can add better merch. I'm sure there are lots of tropers who would love to help with that.

Actually, I'm going to make a new thread for that part. One second.

Merch thread.

I think the key word is 'explicit.' Let's use this definition: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/explicit

I would interpret this as text which describes a sex act or an image that depicts a sex act or nudity. And, I'd say, images that are close to depicting a sex act, judging by the reception the Naughty Tentacles image received.

Personally, I would have no issue living with those restrictions.

By the way, before someone trots out this old argument, rape can be considered a sex act, whatever its true motivation.

[up][up] and[up]: Not a big change to me, and I can live easily with it. The definition is crystal-clear. Now, is it already in No Lewdness No Prudishness and the linked thread or must it be added there?

So, are all rape tropes immediately excised, or should we just leave examples as "rape happened, -insert the other aspects of the trope-"?

Rape Tropes? Sad that that is even a term. Where are these Rape Tropes?

It's an index, even: Rape Tropes

Golly, there's a lot of tropes in there...

Yup.

Still, it doesn't seem crazy super bad.

Might need some reorganizing though?

Eddie, they are tropes. They might need cleanup, but they're very real patterns that show up in fiction. Cutting is way overboard.

Wait don't cut them, they are not all strictly about rape.

Some are prevention, others are more abuse, some are doublestandards etc.

Okay, let's hear the "keep" case for anything on the list. Not saying it will save the article, but it might — as long as it is not explicit in anyway. Got me? Doesn't matter if it is a trope. If the text is explicit, it out.

Remove the 'explicit' if you like, but do it quick. They are under immediate risk of being cut.

Also, does this cleanup effort deserve a Headline?

Rape has been used in fiction as a theme where a character receives a serious mental trauma from such, and can often be handled in a mature manner (as in not treated as a laughing matter). The creepiness factor would be whatever glorifies rape, which goes against our mission. As in the case of my first sentence, we should keep the Rape Tropes.
