When I heard about women fighting in Battlefield V, I knew women played their part in espionage and undercover operations (and that women fought for the Soviet Union; they conscripted everyone), but then that wouldn't be Battlefield, that would be Medal of Honor.
So it can be safely assumed that Battlefield V would be more of a historic fantasy shooter rather than a more realistic one. Certainly shows to be more bombastic. Not that it matters; I'm not touching Origin or any EA games anymore. Not after what they've done.
The way they treated the Star Wars license has turned me off of them too. They had a franchise so beloved by many and with people who have extraordinarily high standards due to some of the amazing games we've seen over the years, and they felt it was okay to even try to fleece us out of as many dollars as they could get their greasy paws on.
These whole backtracking scandals are great, but they don't buy their way off my shit list with good PR, because it's not about hitting the Undo button. It's that they tried it to begin with and needed to hit that Undo button at all. Plus all the lies told about it didn't help things ("Cosmetics would break canon, so we don't do it in this game where Rey gets to fight Darth Maul!"). And after removing all of the microtransaction filth from the game, the game is mediocre at best, which just goes to show just how awful and how skewed toward trying to fleece its customers the game really was.
So yeah, Fuck EA. I haven't bought any games from them since that debacle to my knowledge, and I don't plan on it. For context, I used to buy every FIFA game on release day. Now I haven't bought a FIFA game since '17. I did get NHL games, plus a MLB one, but both before BF 2 came out. Haven't bought an EA game since, and I sure as hell haven't looked back.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. The worst thing about EA's Battlefront 2 is that it shares a name with the infinitely better 2005 Pandemic game and now I have to clarify which game I mean when I say I love Battlefront II.
Fuck you EA you ponces, piggybacking off the legacy of a far better game.
What makes the excuse about canon breakage all the more hilarious is that Disney doesn't give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut about canon.
Ukrainian Red CrossWow, Jimbo just shit all over Shenmue! I have to imagine some people aren't going to like that. (though to be honest the idea that Shenmue hasn't aged well doesn't sound that unlikely to me)
For reference
EDIT: I had forgotten how BAD the audio is in Shenmu.

I'm gonna be honest here...I was never that impressed with Shenmue even when it first came out. Sure, I thought the graphics were pretty nice back in the day...but everything else about it...ehhh.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIf you've played the Yakuza games, you'll know the appeal of Shenmue and its immersion factor. Well, except for a good combat system.
Man that game has not aged well.
Damn every game from the 90's & early 2000's with CG graphics just looks terrible nowadays.
Really amazes you how far graphics has come these days, were getting closer to really looking like real life.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I think Yakuza improved on Shenmue's formula.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.I didn't say Yakuza was a poor imitation, but yeah, lot of things were fine tuned in addition to fun combat. I wouldn't be surprised if Shenmue III takes some notes from that.
As for Jim's view on the games, meh. I disagree and feel he was too harsh on the game, but this isn't the first time. Like when he called the art direction for the environments in Prey sterile making me question if he played the game in black & white.

I'd probably say Jim was kinda spoiled from playing the more advanced Yakuza games hence why he gave Shenmue such an arse kicking
But I've never played Shenmue myself so I can't exactly say. I mean part of the charm of Yakuza is seeing Kazuma Kiryu perform day to day activities like shopping, fishing and playing arcade with the same exact determined scowl and raw energy he usually displays, while Ryo...kindalooks vacant
My only big issue is, once again, Jim's mispronunciations. DAMMIT YOU BIG BASTARD ITS REEYO NOT RAIYOU YOU FOOL
Of the Yakuza games, I've only played 0 for 20+ hours but I can see, where the it has both improved in certain aspects but also cuts corners compared to Shenmue for obvious pragmatic reasons. Whereas in Shenmue every single character is voice acted and has mouth animation, in Yakuza 0 pretty much only the mainstory characters have full voice acting and facial animation. Even some of the story cutscenes use still shots, kind of like in Bayonetta. That probably enabled the game designers to put more side missions to the game, since not every character needs full voice acting.
After playing Yakuza 0, I still find Shenmue enjoyable to play, even though the PS 4 port isn't perfect. The basic premise of the story is pretty simple yet instantly engaging and even though the game is story driven, the cutscenes don't feel excessively long like they sometimes do in Yakuza 0 and I really like most of the background music and the enviroments overall are really immersive. The main issue I have with the first game is that you sometimes have to wait till the next day in game time to progress the story and there isn't always enough things to keep you entertained untill that. Gratefully they fixed that in the second game.
Jimbo has a new show on YT channel Cultaholic, taking things beyond Sterdust, but keeping trademarks from the Jimquisition such as the iconic (that is, actual iconic, not Ubisoft iconic) Rahaan face.
Good lord, wrestling is weird.
It's the best when it isn't the worst.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018Random question: Did anyone here ever buy a game because of one of Jim's Jimpressions?
I admit, his vid on Dead Cells got me interested in it and I'm probably going to buy it soon. I've already logged in a few hundred hours on Deadfire and I can't quite bring myself to shell out 80+ dollars for Dark Souls III now (waiting for a sale someday).
Disgusted, but not surprisedI've actually followed Jim's curator page on Steam, but found that most of the games he recommends just doesn't jibe with the type of games I like to play. (RTS, Total War games, Diablo-like games, the occasional FPS, and whatever my real-life friends recommend.)
I haven't bought any of the games Jim recommends to the point that Angry Joe's curator page now dominates the "Curator Recommendations" area whenever I log in to Steam and check out what's on sale at the store.
(Full disclosure: I only follow three Steam Curators at the moment—the aforementioned two, and the late TotalBiscuit.)

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaJim talks about fighting games and how their producers are dicks when it comes to DLC.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?In particular, he pointed out how fighting game DLC are extra scummy as they can section off characters which fans will have to buy to stay competitive. Particularly if it is a series mainstay, as veterans who used to main the character will have to fork the money to be able to keep using their favorite fighter.
Also praised Nintendo for their Smash DLC policy (which didn't include series mainstays and was focused on clearly "extra" characters). That a small part of the video, but considering how often he craps on Nintendo I thought it was worth to highlight.
Of course, Nintendo kinda ruined it by making two of those characters stupidly powerful, making it a bit of a Pay To Win scheme, but I'd like to assume stupidity rather than malice on that one.
I personally think its degrading to the people who actually fought to get women in the armed forces for decades for them to do that. Resistance fighters and all women Russian units is fine, great even, but not in the US armed forces and such.
Its like saying the south didn't have slaves and portrayed it as such.
