General Page Quote Discussion:

The thing is, the trope isn't just "someone is watching someone else", it's specifically about the nonverbal sign as shown in the image.

Actually I think it could work a few ways. Both verbally and non verbally. That's why i chose that meet the parents quote. If you can find a more defining quote please let me know. I genuinely thought the meet the parents quote defined the Watching You Trope perfectly. I hope there's no problem with that. if that ain't the case, Could i at least add it to the quote subpage?

Remember i'm just doing my best to contribute to this favorite site of mine. I truthfully mean no harm and i don't want any problems or conflicts.

I'm not saying you're trying to do harm, but please just read the description, it lays out the trope very clearly.

No offense to Gabe, however, that quote needs to go. And, yes, I agree with Jay.

Yep the way I see it that sounds exactly like that Jack Byrnes quote to me. Practically the trope codifier. It basically rephrases the quote as a whole and defines the trope word for word. And jack constalntly does the finger gesture without words. The quote was just the first time it was introduced. SO for now i think that settles it. The quote stays.

There's no reason to get snarky with us, and at this point it's starting to sound like you're just grabbing at straws to insist the trope fits. It just simply doesn't, and nothing in that paragraph implies otherwise.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here. I'm being as calm and as polite as I can possibly be. But there's only so many ways that paragraph can be interpreted.

Actually, that paragraph was clearly describing a scenario to help give the reader more of an idea of what the trope is like in practice. Also, that has happened with other Tropes, like Kick the Morality Pet.

Even if Jack constantly does the hand gesture which is the actual focus of the article's definition, there's no indication of that in the quote

Hey real quick question specifically for Gabe, what's the "eye" in that trope name signify? Why isn't it just called "I Am Watching You"?

I'm not sure Gabe is coming back. I think they've decided for themselves that they're right. I know the consensus is to remove, but I'm scared that, since Gabe clearly doesn't agree, it'll trigger an edit war.

If we remove and they readd, they’ll be the one edit warring, so their loss.

I know, I guess I'm just not used to disputes like this where the other party is very insistent on being right. I only pinged them because I thought it'd be a simple way to clear up a misunderstanding, y'know?

Anyway, we still do need to pull it.

Probably so it draws attention to the gesture, i.e. pointing to the eyes, and is thus not just a Stock Phrase. Still not the best name... I wonder if it gets misuse like this...

That's definitely it, yeah. I think the reason they were asking Gabe specifically is because they didn't agree the gesture was the trope, though the title itself tries to clue you in.

In any case, I'll wait a little longer before pulling it (though if anyone else does it in the meantime then fair enough) to see if they come back to engage.

Chikara has two page quotes, one of which seems to be there to mock WWE and the then-TNA circa 2011-12, and the other seems to be there to mock the weird and wacky nature of the promotion. What should I do with them?

Cut 'em both and find something better, I presume.

That seems like the best choice to me.
