Do you know how many Sub Tropes we have on Fanservice? I counted 169. Yes, that's right. We have 169 pages dedicated to Fanservice and most of them have a disturbing amount of examples as well. I'm not going to lie, sex does play a significant role in media, but are that many Sub Tropes + examples really necessary? Do we really need to focus on sex that much? Because to be honest, that much attention displayed on Fanservice Tropes kind of makes me feel uneasy and it comes off as creepy to me.

What do you think?

Oh, and I've mistaken Article with Discussion Title. Could someone please fix that?

Fixed the tag. And, oh god, I'm having one of my spelling moments...

In any case, I wholly agree that we have a ridiculous number of sex-related tropes, and that it takes up a disproportionate amount of our time classifying and analyzing things.

Thanks, but the discussion title should be: Too many Tropes, too many examples.

[up][up] They are not all sex related tropes... Fanservice is a lot more than just showing skin.

Anyways very much disagree at cutting tropes these tropes are used and they are actual tropes and we catalog tropes, we are not prudes here.

Do we really need Pool Scene and Public Bathhouse Scene? Do we really need Bath Kick? What about Panty Fighter?

Not a single trope on the fanservice page, insofar as I could tell on a skim-through, isn't about sex.

It is supposed to include non-sexual things, but apparently it doesn't.

We could make a Sandbox about this, and work our way from the beginning to the end, to see which tropes serve no purpose.

But this should go to Special Efforts.

Panty Fighter is a real Genre. Again we are not prudes here things are tropes and we catalog them... we have much worse on the site (rape tropes) they are still tropes though as much as people might not like it They are used in media.

Pool Scene and Public Bathhouse Scene are 100% different from each other...

@Flyboy

Well, there are Tropes like Impossible Hourglass Figure.

Also, am I the only one who is disturbed that the image for Ms. Fanservice is a 14 years old girl?

[up] So what if it is a real genre? That doesn't make it any less creepy.

Many of the rape tropes shouldn't exist in the form they have. Don't pull the marijuana and tobacco fallacy.

And, I stand corrected. I found one that isn't sexual. Transformation Sequence. I'm not sure why it's on the Fanservice index, but w/e.

[up] No, you are not the only one disturbed by that.

...

That makes two of us...

@Raso

They're not really that different. One takes place at a pool, the other one at a public bath house. Do we really need two different examples for this?

It does not matter if you think its creepy its used it happens in media and its this site's mission to document said Tropes.

Anyway hollering for a lock this serves no purpose.. besides pushing for a personal agenda and attempting to start a fight.

[up] One is well with a Bathing Suit the other isn't, Public Bathhouse is more like a Furo Scene than a Pool Scene. they are completely different in a lot of respects you dont do a lot of things in a Pool Scene that you do in a Public Bathhouse as well as cultural differences.

Well, we have quite a few things that do in fact show up in fiction a lot, but have no real significance past generic fanservice and are thus nothing more than abuse of The Same But More Specific.

If these things actually had significance, in a symbolic/literary fashion, or were notable cliches (Beach Episode, for example), then they deserve to be separate of fanservice as a general concept.

@Raso

I'm not looking for a fight. I want to improve this site, and the disturbing amount of Fanservice Tropes + examples doesn't help. We don't need to pay that much attention to sex.

[up] This.

Sex happens in media... because Sex Sells like it or not, "you think its creepy" I get that but that doesn't matter its used in media.

It is one of the most common things in media actually. The tropes right now are all distinct and have their own connotations.

You want to reduce the Costume tropes to 1 trope too? Seriously...

Flyboy, please stay calm. I really don't want that this thread gets locked.

I agree with you though.

Not seeing much more than a personal preference for what gets troped and what does not. More to the point — TRS is not the place for discuss the overall focus of the wiki, least of all in guise of fixing a problem with a trope page. Locking.
