Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I have to believe that Texas can do better than Matthew Fucking McConaughey.
But if they can't, then I wish McConaughey best of luck in dethroning that shit-weasel Abbott.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I saw someone joke that El Chupacabra at this point would be better then Abbot.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."She can certainly do better than Lapp.. Wait, we're talking about the state?
This was actually addressed in the article. They've been doing the "Biden is senile! Biden is a puppet!" thing for a long time now, it's just not sticking with the larger public.
Just yesterday a Republican senator backtracked on questioning Biden's competency. So at least some of them don't think it's a winning strategy.

Probably because they heard Biden talk - and they also heard Trump talk.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. If anyone feels like a puppet it's Marjorie Taylor, the language in the America First caucus reeks of someone else's bullshit she was presented with,I've heard suggestions on Reddit it was Stephen Miller
New theme music also a boxI don’t expect Miller to be more subtle, but I would expect him to pick a better mouthpiece than a fresh Rep.
i. hear. a. sound.Wonder if the GOP will go the Xi Jinping route of trying to remove Winnie the Pooh comparisons
Jackson was a genocidal racist who went against the Supreme Court deciding it was illegal to kick Natives off their land. He also kidnapped a Native American boy to raise white.
Johnson was a Southern Confederate who Lincoln chose as VP in the worst decision of his life. He had all the racism of the South and pro-slavery sentiments but was planning for a reconciliation of the Union.

"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimThat sounds correct. I imagine most Republicans don’t personally believe that by this point.
It's been 3000 years…OAN has had to tone it dowm thanks to the lawsuit as well. Lol.

Honestly, with how blindly devoted to Trump some people are, you could create a small grassroots program collecting donations for him, and keep the cash lol. That or just sell bootleg Trump merch.
Mind boggling the level of fanaticism they have.

Supreme Court tosses out another Republican 2020 election challenge
https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/19/politics/supreme-court-tosses-gop-2020-election-challenge/index.html
The unsigned ruling sends yet another message that the court's majority has no interest in relitigating the last election. Before Monday, the justices had already declined several requests to dive into one of the most litigious elections in history, denying petitions from then-President Donald Trump and other Republicans seeking to overturn election result in multiple states President Joe Biden won.
There were no noted dissents.
"Once again, the court's involvement in the 2020 election is going out with a whimper, not a bang," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law. The case was brought by a former Republican congressional candidate, Jim Bognet, and four individual voters who argued the state high court exceeded its authority when it ordered the expansion of ballot deadlines amidst the pandemic. It was a hotly debated issue in the weeks before and after the election as some Republicans charged that state courts might not have the final say on their state voting rules.
The argument goes that the Constitution gives the state legislature — not the governor or state courts — the final word on elections and the manner by which states choose electors. Critics of the so called "independent state legislature" doctrine say that "legislature" is a broad term including commissions given legislative powers by the state constitution.
The Supreme Court should really impose harsher penalties for wasting their time, or for attempting to do so.
SoundCloudThe impression I've gotten is the Supreme Court doesn't want to touch these cases with a ten foot pole. So neither taking them up nor penalizing the plantiffs who bring them forward.
Speaking of Lindell, he filed a countersuit against Dominion Voting for $1.6 billion.
Ok, his company definitely isn't worth that.
"Remember, licking doorknobs is illegal on other planets!"-SpongebobHe just hopes not to be bankrupt at the end of this.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I don't know that he'll succeed in that. From what I've researched, MyPillow is either worth $300 million (from Lindell himself) or $500 million (from a website). You do the math.

Republicans in Congress are now accusing Maxine Waters of inciting protesters to get more confrontational.
Notice that some of these Republicans including Marjorie T. Greene AKA Martagross also praised the Capitol rioters for doing way worse.
