Seriously, just look at the article image. Would anyone here seriously consider having two nude men kissing each other be in any way Work-safe?

I personally see nothing inherently NSFW in that page image. Aside from the fact that it's two men kissing (shown only from the waist up, mind you, and men's unclothed chests are not NSFW), what, exactly, do you think makes it Not Safe For Work?

OK, you haven't explained why either. Please do so.

Having two naked men kissing each other is considered work safe now? Really? I'm not exactly sure what Rules Tv Tropes operate under when dealing with Safe for Work issues, but I was rather under the impression that overtly sexually suggestive acts are not Work safe. Having two naked people kissing would be considered overtly suggestive by any system I work under, whether they are both men or not.

I define work safe as something I could walk around showing old people without getting arrested. I honestly don't see how this NOT nsfw. It is two men making out in a sexual manner. While I am enjoying the manliness of the picture there is no way to claim two naked men in each others arm tounge wrestling would not you get you in trouble at your job. We have pulled pics for less.

GODDAMN! Dat man grit.

I suggest this

No, they're not showing any naughty bits, but their body language is pretty blatantly sexual and I think we can be reasonably certain they're naked. I'm pretty sure we can classify images as NSFW if they're sufficiently distasteful even if they don't technically "show" anything.

There isn't anything NSFW there. Yes it's Squicky but that's the genre.

No to pull, however open to other options... GL searching for Bara shows on google... Because I am not.

So the votes are at +2 for nsfw(I am counting the fox admin). The rules say we need a stabilised +3 so this is going to take a while.

Heres a pic.

[up] this genre is not just shirtless guys.... This is Manly Gay Boys' Love made for Gay people. (As opposed to Boys' Love which is made for Yaoi Fan Girls.)

We could just cut off the bottom 30 or so pixels of the current pic.

Edit: FFS can we stop with the damn genre custom titles? Trying to just llink and talk about the Boys' Love thing in general not just those in the genre...

Big brawny man. How does that illustrate Bara?

By the way, Fast Eddie just moved the page from "Bara" to Bara Genre three days ago. Without removing the picture.

"Another important characteristic is that bara emphasizes manly and muscular (sometimes hairy) characters with varying degrees of body fat, as opposed to the androgynous and effeminate boys commonly found in Yaoi." Its gay Manly porn. But your right. It needs another man and intimacy. I shall go to google.

Is this crop more acceptable? It's the one that was originally on the page, but there were apparently requests that the whole image be used. There's some discussion of it here; the final set of entries on the bottom of the page.

That is a lot better. Which is good cause all I could find that was not rl was really badly drawn.

I'm okay with the crop. I don't think the previous one was NSFW personally, but I could see how it might be for some people. It's the knees, it shows a great deal.

Any illustrative bara image must necessarily show Manly Gay guys making out in some way. While this may not always be a porn trope, it is pretty much always a homoerotic trope. I'm okay with the cropped version, since I'm the one who uploaded both versions.

I also very carefully selected this particular artwork as being less explicit than the bara genre usually implies, while still being as attractive as bara demands. There is really not going to be any bara that is completely casually worksafe. It's not going to happen.

And shame on you guys for your squeamishness on this article. XD

I uploaded another cropped version, which is less cropped than the initial cropped version, but is cut exactly at the knees (as mentioned), and 15 pixels at the left and at the right to keep it within 350 pixels.

To be honest, I never really thought of the position of the knees as a NSFW characteristic.

If I find even better bara samples that seem relatively worksafe (bara is never really worksafe in the strictest reich-wing reactionary Republican sense), I'll see about sharing them.

I think it's the fact that the knees let people know that it's two naked guys kissing as opposed to two shirtless guys kissing. The latter is generally thought more work safe.

So it makes a difference whether or not they're naked? Bara is inherently a very sexual genre, and that's really to be understood. I figure that an image example closer in analogue to network TV drama sex scenes would be relatively safe. I mean, in TV dramas there are lots of bedroom scenes where there is absolutely no doubt that they're having sex. It doesn't seem to entirely matter whether they're naked, but other tropes are invoked like Modesty Bed Sheet, Peek-A-Boo, Sexy Back, Side Boob, etc. The difference being that the characters who tend to expose the most skin during televised coitus are female, and I think there would be Unfortunate Implications in us invoking Get Back in the Closet (whose page is itself in Handle This Index With Care).

Now, here are some samples I found, that are more to the point of Bara Genre than mere Rated M for Manly or Manly Gay. Where it's not just implied that they're manly or gay, but are Male Gaze magnets in an obviously physically intimate relationship.

This one is from a bara Visual Novel by Jin. They're two guys, in bed, naked, obviously in an intimate setting, but they're not currently having sex. Neither is there the "knee" issue, as their pelvises have a noticeable distance from each other. And though you can see their bums, they aren't a straight-on view, but a male gluteal Side Boob. They're also not covered in sweat or any hints of fluids, which is actually extremely common in bara and make most candidates immediately NSFW.

This one is a drawing by Takakunozomu that was colored and shaded by a separate artist. It is probably even more worksafe than the previous example. They are sitting in bed and naked, and also gorgeous, but nothing's showing, and they aren't currently making out or embracing. The drawback with this is that it makes the picture more an example for Manly Gay, when the Bara Genre's chief distinction is guys making out with guys.

Out of the three pictures (the one that's up along with these two), I still think the one that's on the page is the best example. It illustrates the genre well while not being too explicit (I don't think).
