Cause as I recall that was the main problem with V, it was unfinished.

I really wish Team, Survival, Challenges, etc. would return in games. It's pretty annoying when a game's feature is one and done, but I get that tons of extras can't be thrown into every game at the cost of the core game.

...I'd have loved for Motor Kombat or Tekken Bowl to return in those series, though...

Also I took a dive into Soul Chronicle and some interesting bits.

  • Zasalamel wielded Soul Edge himself in a past life, hoping that its power would would sever his reincarnation
  • King Arthur Canon still exist lmao
  • Kilik and Groh ar ekinda rivals; Groh Takes on Kilik in the first animated cutscene since the prolouge, before fighting a bit and then heading off, giving Kilik some info on Nightmare before waltzing off into the night

[up] This was game was made on a tight budget, be nice :c

The fact that your libra of souls CAS can't be used in other modes and you can't transfer other CAS into Libra is freakin bizarre.

A number of weird decisions for this game it sounds like.

But I'll still buy it because I love soul calibur and it sounds fun.

Sooo how's the music for this game? Any tracks that caught your fancy?

I'm downloading the game right now BTW.

Okaaay first impressions: the artworks in this game are very pretty, and I love how detailed Museum is. This feels like the first SC game to properly go into its lore and backstory for its characters. The presentation does feel a bit cheap and TBH the graphics as least by SC standards aren't too impressive. Tekken 7 looks better for sure and there's some embarrassing polygons here and there(zasa's scythe handle lol). The levels look good overall, particularly geralt's stage which looks awesome. Also Sophitia's SC 1 theme is remixed in this game which is cool. Haven't noticed too many other memorable tunes yet though.

Groh's AI is noticeably better than the other characters for some reason and he's the only arcade loss I've gotten(twice even). His soul charge or power up whatever makes him hella strong.

I'm not sold on the edge gimmick yet, but I don't really understand it. Kilik feels slightly different due to his rearranged buttons, TBH I don't like him as much. Mina though? She's probably her most fun this time, I'm really digging her.

CAS I wanted to play with but the load times on the One versions are really annoying, hopefully they fix that. Even changing clothing items causes like 3-5 seconds of load time. It's absurd.

I'm getting a bit tired so I'll play more tomorrow.

So Groh is the new SC 3 Setsuka?

Specific question about Zas - when you're actually playing the game, does he still look black? Or Persian, where he's actually from? A lot of the pre-release stuff looked like they lightened Zasalamel's skin to an unrealistic color to feed into But Not Too Black.

So you have to make a new CAS for Libra of Souls? In that case I'm an idiot... thought you could take a pre-made CAS into the mode. Derp. Still gonna have fun with this freaking incredible game though! Beat Kilik's story a couple hours ago! Also totally gonna make some 2P costumes for the regular cast (Tira included).

Yeah, I am not at all prepared to believe that the multi-million dollar game developer was strapped for cash and that we have to settle for less of a product for full price.

I'd like to play SCVI but I right now have no desire to buy it.

You probably would if you remembered this games rocky history with fan perception, mismagement, and that investors arent willing to go All In with a a franhise they were willing to let die.

They were willing to let this guy have a shot, but they werent going to give him say...the budget of T7 or the like.

Gonna double post because I feel this is pretty important

  • Kilik and Xianghua are the ones who take down Knightmare and Inferno this time around, not Raphael. Which means it looks like Raph isnt going to be a vampire this time around. Raphael meets Amy as an orphan and she saves his life after his family betrays him. They travel around as wanted people, with Amy softenng Raphael's heart. After escaping the Birds of Passage (Tira's organization), Raphael becomes a servant to...Lord Dumas. He is accepted in and all is going well, Lord Dumas is willing to have Raphael inherit the fortune...but then he mentions maybe Raphael should abandon Amy. Lord Dumas conveniently "disappears" and Raphael under his new alias as Dumas's adopted son begins living a happy comfy life, but feels like he needs more to help stabilize Amy. Thats when he finds a book on the Evil Seed, Setting him on the path to build a perfect world for him and Amy...

I can't believe they still have issues with the voice pitch altering giving robot voice(thankfully it's not nearly as severe as SCV's), as well as the floating pieces problem from SCV. Also the lack of many(if any) new hairstyles is disappointing.

Feels like Groh and Geralt are more or less the "bosses" of arcade mode, I always seem to fight them as the 4th and last fights. Would explain why Groh feels slightly tougher too.

And man the X One load times are so bad. Really the games' presentation overall is just underwhelming. Graphics aren't that impressive(reminder SC 1, 2, and 4 were some of the best looking fighters of their time), menu design is souless and amateur, story modes look constrained by budget(there's a fight with edgemaster that's done via flash effects and clank noise during dialogue), your non-libra CAS are limited to what modes they can play(only vs, online, and arcade). This game feels like an Obvious Beta in some ways. Not as bad as SCV thankfully but still, it's nowhere near as polished as it should be.

Gotta be honest so far this game feels like it scored higher than it should have. I'm not even 100% sold on single player content because if you want to play and don't feel like reading your only options are arcade and vs CPU.

I'll dive more into Libra of Souls later. I feel this game was screwed over by Namco's greed and lack of faith in the series, but also by poor design choices too.

I like the game sorta but I'm underwhelmed too. Another letdown is the depth of field or whatever effect on levels. It looks TERRIBLE and makes the stages look blurry to where it feels like you're in need og glasses. It's a shame because the levels don't look bad but this obnoxious overdone effect hinders the presentation for a lot of them. It's baffling.

Weapon Master in 2 and COTS in 3 were mostly text based. Arcade mode in 2 was only text based. 3's Tales of Souls mode had minimal cutscenes. Maybe we've been spoiled with fighting game story movies lately thanks to NRS. But outside of NRS, are they really the norm? People hated that MVC 4 had one, and were disappointed in the minimal story given to non-Mishimas in T7.

[up]You're actually right. Despite how influential they've been, Netherrelms are the only ones who have been able to pull off a fully cinematic story mode, probably because WB Games gives them large budgets, treating them like big Hollywood Blockbusters (Probably due to the strength of the brands. Mortal Kombat is one of the most mainstream fighting games, and DC Comics... Well, that speaks for itself). Meanwhile, Japanese devs don't have that kind of money or managerial confidence do do something on NRS' level. Street Fighter V did it, and that game released barebones, the Cinematic Story Mode arriving several months late, and Marvel Infinite looked like dogshit, and the game would have turned out much better if it didn't have it.

Umm... That's all the modes you could possibly use them in. They wouldn't fit in Chronicles of Soul, and I suspect Libra of Soul is different because your character doesn't have a set style or outfit, whereas styles and outfits are sort of baked into the ones you create for other purposes.

So it looks like whenever we get DLC, their story paths will be added to the Soul Chronicle

...Yes, that means Tira's orgin story is DLC as well as the character. Also for some reason I cant seem to progress further on certain stories? Raphael and Zasalamel paths implies theres more, and both are suspiciously in the 1599 1590 range, which I think is SC 2 era? You think there might be a universal expansion to transcend 1 and 2 and go to 3 and beyond?
