Wouldn't Anne Hathaway's take on Selina be more influential or at least well known given it's recency?

[up] Most recent doesn't mean most influential. I forgot Anne Hathaway even played Catwoman. People don't discuss her like they do Joker or Batmam.

[up][up]Well she was the redemption for a certain awful film and I liked her, but she was also opposite Baneposting.

The blonde Selina’s do better box office wise.. Of course Hathaway’s a brunette, so the analogy is ruined anyway. Point is, she did a better job than Halle Berry did and it seemed like they were leaning into the comics accurate Cat.

[up] Halle wasn't even Selina. It was a Legacy Character.

Hathaway's portrayal of Selina seems to register as closer to So Okay, It's Average. It's solid and certainly not the disaster many feared it would be, which it deserves some credit for, but it's also not particularly remarkable either. One thing Hathaway's version does have in its favor is that IMO Selina was Ambiguously Bi in a non-exploitative manner (surely it's not only me who thought her partner-in-crime was more than that), which may have paved the way for her to be revealed as bisexual in the comics as well.

[up]Yeah, few even associate her with the actual Catwoman franchise at this point. It was so transparent of a Halle Berry vehicle that it did little in the way of Ink-Stain Adaptation. Most of the damage it did was in furthering the execs' strawman about not letting movies have black/female leads, rather than anything to do with Catwoman herself.

[up]Hathaway’s only major issue is that the nature of her role (a thief with clearly guarded emotions until Bruce shows her that she can trust people again) is that she’s next to characters like Bane. She gets...drowned out in terms of being memorable even if her arc is one of the better ones, sort of a counterpoint to the Burton/Pfeiffer Selina who couldn’t accept anyone else because she hated herself, while the Hathaway/Nolan Selina did accept someone into her life and learned how to be happy again.

But does anyone remember that? More often than not they’re thinking about Bane and collapsing football fields.

Any perception that Catwoman is supposed to be black would be more from the love for Eartha Kitt and not the character herself. Otherwise it is simple public misinformation, like the assumption that Green Lantern is a black guy.

Funny enough, the blonde Michelle Pfeiffer version really dominated that perception through the 90's, as such when she eventually changed back to being dark haired it was a small shock itself.

But...Green Lantern is a black guy. Well, one of them. And one is Muslim and one is a Latina and one is a ginger and one is an artist.

[up](x4) People can like the character but not read the comics. Most viewers get their viewpoints from adaptations, not the source comics. The adaptations are very influential.

So with Vanessa Kirby the front runner to be Catwoman, does anyone dislike the idea of her taking on the role? And if Batman really is going to be more of a detective film, would you want her as the main antagonist or a side antagonist to the main mystery?

If this is a Noir detective story, she'd presumably be the Femme Fatale who approaches Bats with a problem but whose allegiance keeps shifting.

Christopher McQuarrie confirms he and Henry Cavill pitched a Man of Steel sequel and that McQuarrie also had a written proposal for a Green Lantern movie that would tie into it, but that the studio rejected both.

Storm Reid has been cast in The Suicide Squad. She'll be playing the daughter of whoever Idris Elba's character is supposed to be.

Hey, has anyone heard of this website called the Comic Book Cast?

I found one of their YouTube videos a while back and now I'm starting to really question their credibility, because one video is claiming WB is doing a Superman movie without Henry Cavill.

At this point, I think the Warner Bros has kind of given up on anymore Superman movies — they've definitely moved on to trying to build out new properties and give us sequels to Aquaman and Shazam.

Movies that we know are in production/post-production:

  • Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)
  • Wonder Woman 1984

Movies that are in pre-production or starting production:

  • The Batman
  • The Suicide Squad
  • Black Adam

Movies that they've stated they will make, but whose status is currently unknown:

  • Aquaman 2
  • The Trench
  • Shazam 2
  • The Flash
  • Green Lantern Corps
  • Batgirl
  • Nightwing
