How about just dropping the "generic" part from the current name?
I apologize for being late to this thread, but there is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.
Since January 1, 2011 this article has brought 41 people to the wiki from non-search engine links.
How about Mysterious Evil Organization? Or Mysterious Evil Squad. That way it sounds less 'CIA here to help' and more like something in assoication with the Omniscient Council of Vagueness
This needs a few more votes.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThis trope also has a lot of Zero Content Examples. I think it won't hurt to change the name, but that's not all it needs. It's a trope that should cover a lot of villain groups that don't belong on Quirky Miniboss Squad. It could do with more than a cursory mention on that page, and a more clear distinction.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!It could. There is more than just the name wrong here, I agree.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I moved the article and wicks, added notes to both stickied thread, Renamed Tropes and the discussion page. Hollering for a lock.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
Mysterious Organization (with or without an X) seems much too broad to me. It makes me think of "ambiguously CIA" or MIBs or the "we're from the government, we're here to help" goon squad that shows up and disappears all the evidence.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.
