...Except the ones for Nightmare and girl were much better written and the rest of the book was not ruined or changed.

It's a copout. The rest of the book has just odd shit for the sake of odd shit, with little structure, and in stead of an actual explantion...oops, robots! what a load.

I heard back in 2010, Mezco toys acquired the rights for Goosebumps merchandise. Seems they've abandoned that idea. Too Bad.

If anyone still follows this forum, I'd like to ask: Which Goosebumps characters would you want to see as an action figure?

My favourite Goosebumps book is "The Curse of Camp Cold-Lake" because of the twist and the Red Herring... But why was Curse of Camp Cold-Lake never made into a TV episode?

Drowning?

I don't remember that book. I might not have read that one. Still, I think TV companies are cowards when it comes to what kids can and can't handle. Book companies have the right idea.

[up] The main character pretends to drown at one point to get people to notice and feel sorry for her. It backfires horribly because she stays under too long, and when she reaches the shore she's apparently dead.

Oh yeah, there was actual death in some Goosebumps books, but always as a backstory. Like the one about the kid who found out she was a ghost. It started with her room being on fire, but it's just a dream. Or is it? She later finds out that she died in the fire and was dead the whole time.

The drowning must be backstory I assume.

[up] No, it happens in-story. The main character fakes drowning in like chapter 6.

[up] Sorta. She's revived later but the ghost she meets while dead sticks around and wants her to be her buddy. That drives the plot, cause she has to be dead to be her buddy...

Wait, revived? Dead and then comes back? I thought that dealing with death that way was something Goosebumps tried to avoid.

Being revived by CPR isn't what I'd consider coming back from literally being dead. So she almost died.

I find this show very convincing to watch when I was a kid, lots of creepy episode. Of course I’m just 8 years old back then that’s why this show really gives me the creeps! The “Don’t Go to Sleep” episode really freaks me out. It’s so scary, hehe! I also collect some RL Stine booklets back then and what made this show more unique is the unexpected twisted story at the end of each episode. I bought a DVD collection of this show at yourdvdcorner.com for my kids to watch. The whole aet is great because the quality id good with the complete episodes of 4 seasons. Overall, this is one of the creepy show that kids with age ranging from 8-12 will truly appreciate!

Does anyone remember those comic adaptations of the series? Too bad only three were published. I'd love to see a fourth, with an adaptation of How I Got my Shrunken Head by Mike Mignola, or Charles Burns' take on My Hairiest Adventure.(Anyone heard of his graphic novel Black Hole? If so, you'd know what I mean.)

I want a comic version of attack of the mutant, for irony's sake.

Who's read William Sleator's books? They're kinda similar, but I think they're really good in comparison. Pretty awesome IMO.

@Bonsai Forest:

Reluctant protagonists may be a big problem, but there's only so much they can do. I mean, if you were a normal, inexperienced pre-teen who's suddenly menaced by things like a sociopathic shape-shifting mutant, a mask-like parasite that's fused to your face, or a clan of giant militant koala creatures who could bite off your head unless you followed the rules of their bizarre games, wouldn't you be a bit terrified?

And there are moments where the kids fight back, as rare as they seem.

Hey, a reply to something I said 3 years ago. grin You make a good point, but at the same time, I still would like to see an inexperienced character at least try to influence their situation. You can be scared, but if you just go running scared, nothing gets done.

Than again, though, the main attraction of these books was never the mostly bland protagonists. I think it was the colorful gallery of monsters and villains that would drive the plot of each story. Say what you will about the series, but Stine could come up with some pretty imaginative creatures. We had a time-travelling executioner, a cryokinetic Yeti with a taste for Trail mix, a sentient, telepathic shrunken head, a half-human, half plant mad scientist... Which monster was your favorite?

I don't know about favorite monster, but I remember being genuinely creeped out at knowing that the kid's own dad, in his own house, was transforming into a plant creature and trying to cover it up. The thought that his own dad might turn on him is something that's more horrifying than any monster could ever be.

I always wanted to read these and Animorphs as a kid since both were popular. I think I actually bought a Goosebumps book just to try it, it did nothing for me, and I gave it away. Animorphs I just never bought at all until I found a ton at a used book store. Still haven't read them though.

Also, I thought I was the only one who realized that if you take the I out of R. L. Stine and move the L, that you can play the bonus round on Wheel of Fortune. But apparently, everyone has done that joke.
