YMMV / WOW Women of Wrestling

Go To

  • Crowning Music Of Awesome: Caged Heat's theme, which was the only one with lyrics.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Heroic psycho ref Josh Milton, who took a lot of abuse from the wrestlers and got way over on the message boards as a result.
  • Evil Is Cool/Rooting for the Empire: Beckie The Farmer's Daughter, "The Real Deal" Selina Majors and "The Total Athlete" Roxy Powers aside, a lot of the time the Heels were better wrestlers and cooler than the Faces. Lana Star was an exception, since she was entertaining on the mic but awful in the ring, and was the one character who likely would have made for a better manager than a wrestler.

  • Fanfic Fuel: Its early demise spawned a lot of stories on the message boards.
  • Hype Backlash: Despite the original run's train wreck reputation there was buzz about the revival. Jungle Grrrl(as Erica Porter), Delta, Loca and Riot had done well enough on the independent circuit, several more established wrestlers from said circuit were coming in and many new trainees seemed pretty charismatic. Unfortunately a match between Amber O'Neal, who is considered to be pretty good, and Jungle Grrrl, who is a contender for the best WOW produced turned out to be kind of bad, the new rookies mostly proved to be no better than that in the ring, the well known circuit names were not immediately pushed. Once people got over these things revived WOW did acquire a regular audience, but a much quieter one.
  • Narm Charm/So Bad, It's Good: It was created by the same guy who created GLOW, what else would you expect? Its straight-faced Kayfabe mentality did not fit in with the hardcore climate of 2000-2001.
  • The Scrappy: Terri Gold, who was the inaugural WOW Champion and was pushed as the promotion's top Face, but was utterly hated on the various fan message boards, who called her "Terri Hogan".
    • Slam Dunk was hated too, due to being the worst wrestler in the promotion.
    • Bronco Billie belongs too, due to her admitting to not wanting to work hard to get better. Her superior tag team partner Beckie The Farmer's Daughter became an Ensemble Dark Horse as a result.
    • Tessa Blanchard in the 2018 revival, due to the insane amount of overpromotion she received (overshadowing everyone else by a lot) and by what some viewed as some of the most ridiculous writing ever to give her the championship.

How well does it match the trope?
