YMMV / The Harder They Fall (2021)

  • Draco in Leather Pants: Most of the main antagonists have gotten this treatment as Buck, Trudy, and Bill's charisma, badassery, attractiveness, and sympathetic motivations make them compelling enough for many to overlook or justify the amount of innocent blood they've spilled.
  • Ending Fatigue: Some fans of the film have argued that it runs about 30 minutes longer than needed. In particular, the bank robbery is pointed to as an unneeded detour that ended up All for Nothing (since the heroes used dynamite to blow up the bags before the villains even knew their contents). All things considered, everything between the group's first and second arrival at Redwood could have been easily skipped.
  • LGBT Fanbase: The movie received a fair amount of support from watchers that interpreted Cuffee as a trans man or Butch Lesbian. Details pointed to include Cuffee casting away their birth name, being adamantly against having to dress femininely for the bank robbery, and seemingly having a Bodyguard Crush on Stagecoach Mary.
  • Magnificent Bastard:
    • Nathaniel "Nat" Love is an outlaw and the leader of a small band of cowboys who steal from other outlaws. Swearing revenge against Rufus Buck after he killed his parents as a child, Nat spends years gradually killing off members of Buck's gang whilst forming his own. After stealing $25,000 from Buck's cronies and discovering that Buck will soon be broken out of prison, Nat opts to use the opportunity to take out Buck himself. When his lover, Stagecoach Mary, gets captured by Buck, Nat steals $35,000 from a bank to secure her safety, threatening to blow up all the money with dynamite in case Mary isn't freed. When a member of his gang is killed during a standoff, Nat destroys all the money in front of Buck, successfully rescues Mary, and finally avenges his parents' murders by hunting down and killing Buck.
    • Rufus Buck is an outlaw and Nat Love's Arch-Enemy. Seeking vengeance after his father abused him and killed his mother, Buck spent several years hunting down his father, and successfully murdered him and Nat's mother, while scarring Nat so he'd remember the boy was when he grew older. Years later, Buck and his gang use their resources to build Redwood City, whilst also threatening its citizens if they didn't pay taxes or went against their laws. After Buck is broken out of jail and approached by Stagecoach Mary, Buck has her imprisoned, knowing that Nat is secretly trying to dismantle his operation. He later forces Nat to steal $35,000 from a bank, despite knowing it'll raise his notoriety. After Buck's plans are foiled and Nat confronts Buck, Buck refuses to fight him, instead choosing to reveal that they're half-siblings and that Buck's plan to let Nat grow up to become an outlaw worked exactly as he planned.
    • Trudy Smith is one of Rufus Buck's Co-Dragons. A no-nonsense but calm outlaw, Trudy frequently commits violence against anyone who opposes her or her companions. While assisting Cherokee Bill with breaking out Buck from a train, she wounds some of the soldiers on the train and assists Bill with killing the rest. She later helps Buck with his schemes to get more money for Redwood City and kidnaps and almost kills Stagecoach Mary. When Nat Love's gang and Buck's cronies engage in a shootout after Nat blows up Buck's money, Trudy lures Mary into an abandoned building and nearly beats her to death.
