"Oh shit, I done hit gold!"

  • The opening scene, in which Rufus kills Nat's parents, then proceeds to carve a cross in his head, with the boy screaming and pleading the whole time.
  • Cherokee Bill shiving the train passenger who tried to stand up to him in the legs. It's quick but looks utterly painful and it's very likely he hit the man's nerves, meaning he'll never walk again.
  • For Abbott, hearing his son being shot just outside the car door as Cherokee Bill calmly asks to be let in.
  • Trudy telling off Abbott and his men for their crime of killing a town of civilians just to get silver that was in the area. These are supposed to be upholders of the law, so of course, the government is going to want their hands clean of them. Unfortunately, they do so by hiring the gang to take care of them in exchange for Rufus. Even the hardened outlaws, Trudy and Bill, find them deplorable.
Trudy: Apparently you and your men wiped out an entire town, women and children included, to steal silver. Now that some...
    Trudy/Bill: ...Unscrupulous shit.
  • As Rufus emerges from confinement, Abbott pleads for his life. Rufus doesn't even entertain the idea, having Bill shoot him right in front of his son, who cries over his body as he dies. After asking who can drive the train, Abbott's son raises his hand...
    Rufus: Everybody but him.
(The gang proceed to kill the other soldiers as Rufus does an Unflinching Walk out of the car)
  • Rufus brutally pistol-whips Wiley for stealing money from Redwood, knocking out several of the man's teeth in the process as he yells in anguish. He lets Wiley live out of their former friendship but threatens him to leave or else, poking at the spot where Wiley's gold teeth used to be for good measure.
  • While Rufus does truly care for Redwood, he makes it clear to the townspeople it's his way or the highway when he rounds them up and demands payment, despite being told there's no way they can scrounge up the money he's asking for. One of the townsfolk speaks against him and, unsurprisingly, Rufus shoots him despite the man asking for mercy and saying he has a family.
  • Trudy tells Mary about an incident in her childhood where her sickly older sister was hurt by a bully named Hope who threw an apple at her, causing her to fall and break her ankle. Trudy's father beat her severely for not protecting her sister and then went to punish Hope in turn, only to find out the bully was killed via a Slashed Throat. Though we're never explicitly told who did that to her, it's heavily implied Trudy did it herself. There are no visuals given besides Trudy slowly peeling an apple as she speaks, leaving the horrifying tale up to the imagination.
    • By the end, Mary is a little shaken and even sympathizes with her, but still refuses to talk. Trudy understands completely... and has one of her men strangle Mary for a bit before stopping him. For added horror, you can see the bruise line around Mary's neck once the strangling is called off. Yeesh.
  • Nat eventually rides into Redwood to save Mary and willing gives himself up. Rufus has him strung up in the courthouse and beaten like a punching bag by Angel before meeting him personally. In the meeting, he threatens Mary's life if Nat doesn't get interest for the money he stole from the Crimson Hoods earlier. For added mockery, he throws Nat the switchblade used to carve the cross in his forehead.
  • While also dark comedy, Angel getting blown up in the carriage trap Nat's gang set up, with his severed arm landing on the ground in front of Bill and Bass.
  • In the climax, Beckwourth convinces Bill to a quick draw duel with Bill allowing him the count. Beckwourth readies his gun as he does... and Bill shoots him in the head at the number 3, complaining how all his opponents tend to count so slow.
  • Wiley's death- he confronts Rufus with a stick of dynamite, which Rufus proceeds to shoot, blowing the man up.
  • When he and Nat are finally face to face, Rufus reveals his backstory. His father was an abusive outlaw who beat him and his mother, eventually killing her and running off with all their money. Rufus spends years trying to track him down, and eventually discovers that the man had gone clean, becoming a priest and starting a new family- a family that includes Nat, making the two enemies half-brothers. Though he admits that killing his father was retribution, Rufus goes on to say that leaving Nat alive was his real revenge, as Nat would grow up to become a vicious outlaw with his own grudge.
    • He then urges Nat to complete his revenge, looming over him and taunting him with his real name until Nat is practically forced to pull the trigger. Nat has won, but his victory will always be hollow.
