  • Complete Monster: Christopher Matts, infamously and appropriately known as The Bastard, is the founder of The Network, feared for his ability to make people's heads explode. Having begun his career by murdering his own mother as an infant, Christopher is a sadistic, petty sociopath whose routine is killing the loved ones, family members, and close friends of his victims and leaving them alive solely to suffer from grief should they mess with him. Throughout the show, he uses his abilities to murder several people regardless of how small their slight against him is; exploding the heads of four people because they didn't clap long enough; killing a prison guard for using her phone while on the job; and eventually murdering a close friend and his servant simply because he hates surprises. The Bastard eventually captures the girlfriend of Johnny Bolt whom he plans to kill her so he could use her corpse to show Johnny as a demonstration of those who try to steal from him. After being outwitted by the titular gang, The Bastard murders his monk for surprising him and a year later, would murder his former right hand and his goons under the false pretense that he betrayed him.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Johnny's debut as a would be superhero in episode 1 of the anime ending with him accidentally electrocuting his classmates in a pool? Quite horrifying. The same accident causing a huge domino-like chain reaction of mass destruction involving a destroyed church and dead pigs flying everywhere? Darkly hilarious.
    • The entirety of the laser room scene, in which the Diesel Brothers charge into a room full of lasers in order to reach the other end, aiming to press a switch to deactivate them so that the rest of the team can pass through it safely. What follows is an insanely gory sequence in which the two brothers are repeatedly hacked to pieces by said lasers while rapidly regenerating their bodies as they continue to charge forward; all while the rest of the team watches in horrified fascination. This would be extremely dark/horrifying on its own, but the fact that the entire scene is set to to the The Blue Danube Waltz adds the perfect amount of absurdity to it, pushing it into peak Black Comedy.
  • Memetic Mutation: Making edits putting the song "Lights", by Ellie Goulding over clips from the anime opening, and using it as a reaction image.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The Utopian’s Slasher Smile during The Union of Justice’s fight against Count Orlok in the flashback.
    • Kasey’s fake demise in the last episode when The Bastard makes her head explode. It seemed as if Kasey died for real, but as it turns out, it was an illusion she placed on The Bastard, and that it was actually his henchman Miguel whose head was exploded by him.
