  • Jerkass Woobie: Apolina. She's very annoying and cold-hearted, but it's implied that she has become like this out of a desire to survive in a world where is is seen as worthless by everyone. And regardless of what you think of her, she did not deserve to be murdered.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: This game was described by Ross Scott as "sort of like a game version of the movie Se7en".
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Post Mortem was by no means well received by gamers who complained about its lack of sense, poor voice acting, and boring gameplay. The sequel, on the other hand (although it's not really a sequel per se as it just happens to feature the same character; the plot itself has nothing to do with the previous game), was widely considered to be one of the better adventure games of its time.
  • That One Puzzle: The damn lockpicking puzzle... What seems like a harmless if unconventionally visualized "Move the Block" puzzle, quickly shows a more sinister design logic, when the proper solution involves counter productive thinking to move certain tumblers by moving other tumblers that at first had no effect on the former tumblers!
  • The Woobie: Gustav Mcpherson. He witnesses the brutal murder of his pregnant girlfriend and can only watch helplessly as she is stabbed, and the killer is never really brought to justice.
