YMMV / Sid the Science Kid

Go To

  • Better on DVD: The show is best viewed in order instead of randomized reruns; both seasons are divided into 5-episode arcs relating to a specific science topic (for example, the first five episodes together comprise an arc about measurement). The end of each arc is a recap of that week's topic. Thus, watching on DVD or streaming services offers the more complete experience.
  • Bizarro Episode: The entirety of the web-exclusive episode "Where Did I Come From?". After asking his parents the titular question, they instruct him to "go right through that wall", whereupon Sid phases through the walls of reality itself and ends up in the Jim Henson Company's real-life LA studio, where the animators explain to him (and the audience) how Sid is animated and that his existence is as a fictional creation. Sid is so horrified that he rushes back through to his parents, who promptly zap him with a neuralyzer and erase his memory of the whole episode. This is never brought up again in the show.
  • Fridge Horror: In the episode "Where Did I Come From?", after Sid returns from the real world, and is disturbed by what he had seen there, his parents erase his memory of the episode using a neuralyzer. While this episode likely isn't intended to be canon, the fact that they own a device they can use to erase his memories definitely raises some questions about how many times they may have done this before. The fact that they both act rather casual about the whole thing really doesn't help much…
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Sid goes through the wall Explanation
    • "I love my mom, my mom is cool!" Explanation
    • "BREAKFAAAAAAST!" Explanation
    • "I'm looking for my friends." Explanation
    • "Ask me if I'm a truck-"Explanation
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: The show’s use of Motion Capture for its characters creates a very... off blend of realistic humanoid proportions and movement with smooth muppet-like facial features. Any closeup of the characters smiling can veer into outright Accidental Nightmare Fuel.
