• Angst Aversion: No one will blame you for being turned off once you hear about the series' reputation for being a massive Tear Jerker. Borders on It Was His Sled because the first few episodes are rather light-hearted and it only starts to become sad later on.
• Fanon Discontinuity: Concepts vary on what EX Rumia's One-Winged Angel form should look like, but most of them seem to go with: black feathered wings, a halo, a BFS, and happening immediately upon the seal breaking, but otherwise looking exactly like vanilla Rumia. Do some of these sound cliché? Joyful thought so, and decided to put a new spin on these concepts for a more monstrous design: the wings are now demonic with thin webbing and bone-like structuring, the halo is broken, the BFS was taken out completely, her body is covered from head-to-toe in darkness except for Glowing Eyes of Doom, and the transformation only happens when Awakened!Rumia wants to make it clear that she is trying to kill Reimu. The revamp was met with many positive reviews.
• Harsher in Hindsight: In established Touhou canon, Reimu, while preferring not to be bothered, really hates that she isn't recognized enough as a miko and doesn't get enough worshipers for her god at her shrine. If this fanfic is to be believed, then the alternative is much, much worse.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Yukari's demonstation of how fireworks are used to entertain despite their original use to harm becoming Reimu's inspiration for the Spell Card System would be inverted years later when Reimu in the canonical Grimoire of Usami gets the inspiration to host a Danmaku Fireworks contest after seeing the visual similarities of fireworks and danmaku.
• Les Yay: Would it be Touhou without it? More specifically, Reimu's mother gets it with both Adult Rumia and Yukari. Yukari even says it outright when Reimu's mother fades away for good.
• Like You Would Really Do It: Lots of people were quick to call that Rumia didn't die for real in Episode 5 since there was still another episode left. They were right.
• Tear Jerker: We're going to be here a while...
