YMMV / Noel The Mortal Fate

Go To

  • Adorkable:
    • When asked how his first time using a card key was by Noel, Caron tries to deny it, saying that’s just how it works while he could barely cover his curiosity and excitement. For bonus point, he even has a small, little blush!
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Fugo and Oscar being brothers isn't exactly hard to guess.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: While no Official Couple is present, most fans want Noel and Caron to hook up.
    • Also Jillian/Caesar is very popular, as fans would prefer to see them together rather than her unhealthy fixation over Noel.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With Angels of Death, as both have the "brooding little girl and tall dark boy" dynamic.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Jino dislikes headstrong women and has lots of trust issues, which only get worse after Burrows leaves him to die in Season 6. Cut to Season 13, when it's revealed he had a crush on a woman named Elena Droett in his youth. Not only he finds out he'd fallen in love with a character acted out by Luce Marie, she beats him up and convinces him that he needs to be strong and not trust anyone in order to survive in the world. Burrows betraying him just confirmed Luce's words for him.
  • Ho Yay:
    • First of all, the truly incredible amount of subtext between Noel and Jillian. Jillian looks up to Noel a huge amount, to the point of describing her mentally in almost poetic terms worthy of a lovestruck Shoujo heroine. Heck, she even made a contract with a demon so she'll stop seeking revenge and coming back to her.
    • Slug not only is a huge fanboy towards Fugo. He also constantly thinks about the time he and Fugo first met and says that joining the gang was the pivotal moment of his life.
    • Jino is all but openly gay (or bi, considering his old crush on Luce Marie) and commonly flirts with Burrows, calling him "Russell-chan".
    • Toad's tsundere one-sided rivalry with Noel.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Noel is shipped with almost everyone in the series: from Caron, Fugo, Oscar, Jillian, Ribellio, Burrows, etc. Practically Noel X the entire cast.
  • Ship Mates: People who like Noel/Caron also like Jillian/Caesar. And sometimes Ribellio/Spica as well.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • Slug's past focuses heavily on the Japanese idea that a criminal parent would have a criminal child, whereas western nations ideally view each person individually. A criminal parent might be a matter of embarrassment or shame, but nowhere near the level of ostracization Slug faced.
    • Fugo mocking Jino's usage of female pronouns and referring to him as a tranny is supposed to be comedy relief, but can come across as fairly offensive outside of Japan.
  • The Woobie: Given the nature of the game, there are many characters that you will end up pitying, like Noel (was tricked into making a demon contract, lost her limbs and her prestige and ended up being a wanted criminal), Fugo (was scarred in an explosion that killed his parents and ended up living in the streets, was manipulated into making a demon contract), Oscar (was born sick, Fugo looks down on him for being "frail", lost his parents in an explosion, was manipulated by Jino into making a demon contract) and Ribellio (ended up making an unwilling contract with Spica and was separated from his friends).
