YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S5 E6 "Appleoosa's Most Wanted"

Go To

  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation: The CMC showed conflict about earning their cutie marks in Justice by sending an essentially innocent pony behind bars. This just goes to show that nothing you want is ever worth sending an innocent to prison.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Troubleshoes isn't actually good at comedy, nor does he show any real passion for it; he's just particularly klutzy and people laugh at him. Whereas most cutie marks we've seen appear in the wake of an epiphany regarding what a pony wants to do in life, Troubleshoes' mark directly contradicts his dream to be a rodeo star, and most of his life is spent in absolute misery. Despite his acceptance of his "talent" in the end, this casts a perpetual shadow over the existence of cutie marks as a whole.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • The way Troubleshoes learns to use his klutziness for entertainment is not that different from how comedians use their depression and self-hatred for Self-Deprecation-based humour. It doesn’t mean the depression goes away, though, and sometimes it has catastrophic results.
    • Imagine if Troubleshoes ended up in that Cutie-mark removing village in the season opener! He would be everything someone like Starlight Glimmer would want in a follower, and he'd be all too happy to ditch a "bad luck" Cutie Mark and embrace the town's idea of equality. Worse, he would oppose the Mane Six's attempts to undo her spell. Alternatively, he's one of the more demonstrable examples of cutie marks being negative things. A fan comic shows what might’ve happened if Troubleshoes met Starlight Glimmer [1]
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Half a season later, it turns out this episode was providing major Foreshadowing for what the CMC's special talent actually is.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Seems to be such the majority response to this episode, that many reviews tend to skip this one precisely because there's just that little to talk about.
  • The Woobie: Troubleshoes has been miserable ever since he got his cutie mark, simply because he interpreted it in a negative way.
