- Accidental Aesop: This can be seen as a meta-one on Lauren Faust's part: that even characters like Rarity can break away from the Damsel in Distress trope and be strong in their own way.
- Alternative Character Interpretation: Was Rarity saying "Mules are ugly" actually an example of Fantastic Racism or just her trying to annoy the Diamond Dogs?
- Ensemble Dark Horse:
- Sapphire Shores was somewhat popular within the fandom at the time though not as popular as Photo Finish or Hoity Toity.
- The Diamond Dogs were popular despite being minor villains and fans were quite disappointed that they were never brought back throughout the show aside from a few appearances in other forms of media of the cartoon.
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Rarity asserts that "A lady is never jealous". The very next episode involves her being jealous of Fluttershy.
- Spike digs up several gems like a dog would.
- Memetic Mutation: Rarity's "You want to hear whining?!" rant saw more than a few uses for this.
- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Those who weren't fond of Rarity finally came to like her as a character in this episode.
