YMMV / Kya: Dark Lineage

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Frank briefly having his eyes turning red and speaking Voice of the Legion in the opening intro is never referenced again nor explained.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Who Kya's father really is. Seriously 10-15 mins into the game the game literally says it outright.
  • Complete Monster: Brazul, in actuality Kya and Frank's father, is a cruel alien conqueror who plans to destroy and take over multiple dimensions with the power of the medallion. Setting his sights on the peaceful Nativ village, Brazul has multiple Nativs kidnapped and transformed into Wolfens to add to his army, planning to do the same to Frank once he's in his grasp. Making the Nativ Aton betray his people and give up Kya in return for protection, Brazul instead finds the location of the village and has his men burn it all down, capturing the inhabitants to be transformed into Wolfen, while also planning to transform Kya into a Wolfen to rule the world while he'll be out destroying other dimensions.
  • Demonic Spiders: Wolfun Brutes are much larger and rarer than their more common counterparts, and they come with a much larger health bar and a variety of powerful combos and a couple of unblockable attacks.
    • Gunners... All of them. Whether it's a Sniper, a basic Rifleman, or a Rocket Launcher, their guns hit like a truck, and if you're not careful, they can kill you before you can run to cover, and their shots all knockback, so a single hit can easily result in being juggled against a wall, or stun locked and knocked back until you fall into the void.
    • Then you have the Watchdogs, fairly small, but once they get your scent, they make a beeline for you, and once they're close enough they make a leaping strike that covers a large distance compared to your run speed, and has a large hitbox, and if it hits it's an instant death. They appear in larger numbers as the game goes on, and eventually start hiding in those boxes you've been smashing all over the place. They're also unkillable by conventional means, requiring you to trick them into jumping off the map, into death traps, or hope there's a bomb dispenser or cannon nearby.
  • Fake Difficulty: A large portion of deaths and retries can easily be attributed to the game's incredibly unfriendly camera that likes to get stuck in or abruptly change to fixed angles and refuses to pass through or along walls when rotating, causing quite a bit of disorientation for such a platform heavy game.
  • Nightmare Fuel: You can take the punching bag wolfen out of the dojo (by grabbing its tail and pulling it outside). If you pull it all the way to the bottom of a nearby slide, then attempt to go up the slide, Kya will slide down, letting go of the fake wolfen. It will then stand in place like a real wolfen, and will rotate to watch Kya.
  • That One Boss: Brazul's fight might count, especially with his cheap power punches, which knocks a decent chunk of health out and stuns you for a certain amount of time.
  • The Scrappy: Akasa, the dojo owner, with his limited-but-incessant vocabulary, qualifies as this for many players.
