YMMV / Futurama S 4 E 7 Jurassic Bark

Go To

  • Angst Aversion: It's practically an in-joke that most fans skip this episode during casual rewatches due to the infamous Downer Ending. At the very least, it's common to just stop watching the episode right before the final flashback to Seymour growing old.
  • Award Snub: Was nominated for the 2004 Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program but lost against The Simpsons episode "Three Gays of the Condo".
  • Common Knowledge: Seymour dies of old age waiting for Fry to come back. Except the episode very clearly states Seymour was flash-fossilized into dolomite, which is the reason the Professor is able to revive him in the first place, which becomes clearer in the first movie.
  • Hype Backlash: Being singled out as the saddest episode of the series can put some fans off the episode, particularly if they don't find it as sad or prefer other highly emotional episodes (such as "The Luck of the Fryrish" or "The Sting") that, while also beloved within the fandom, don't have nearly as much acclaim in the greater animation community.
  • Memetic Mutation: The sheer sadness of the episode's ending has become a meme. It is common to joke that even robots/Vulcans/[insert emotionless thing here] will cry at "Jurassic Bark".
  • Signature Scene: The episode's ending is one of the most notorious Tear Jerkers in all of Western animation, and part of the reason why the episode was so acclaimed. As such, it is frequently spoiled on the internet, to the point even casual viewers are aware of it.
