YMMV / Dragonball Gohanverse

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Considering how most other Gohans would've ultimately not meddled in Universe 7DT's affairs despite frequently making fun of Emo Gohan, is Gohan Black's insistence on reforming 7DT's Chi-Chi due to legitimately wanting to make a less depraved life for her and her family as encouraged by his own happy family memories and PTSD, or is it because Zamasu's control-freak tendencies are unconsciously pushing him to care too much about her actions, since he goes so far as to try to lobotomize her when he loses his patience? In short, how much of Gohan Black's actions are purely "Gohan", and how much came from Zamasu's influence?
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The moment where Universe 7DT's Chi-Chi eyes Absalon Gohan could give the iconic Bulma-flirting-with-Future Trunks moment from Dragon Ball Z Abridged a run for its money in the internal screaming department:
Chi-Chi: I can't help it! I'm such a slut that the word is a compliment for me these days. Hell, I'm poaching for a new boy toy. (turns to Absalon)
    (long, awkward beat)
Absalon: …I am literally your son from an alternate universe!
    Chi-Chi: Key word: alternate.
Absalon: (visibly quivers in disgust and horror)
  • Fridge Logic: Absalon claims that after a certain age, Piccolos get weaker. However, Piccolo inherited his father's Eternal Youth, meaning he stopped aging after hitting his physical prime.
    • Perhaps it's not a thing of actual physical age.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • After Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, was released, many people noticed the similarities between the new transformation Gohan gets and El Blanco, including Dai himself.
Emo Gohan: Toei! Where's the fucking money Toei!? Gohanverse did El Blanco first Toei! WHERE'S THE FUCKING MONEY!?
      • Even the form's name, Gohan Beast, is similar to the Saint Gohan Beasts, something that Dai also points out.
    • Similarly, Piccolo's arc about everyone seeing him as deadweight has also become this after the movie's release, with him getting two new transformations and being back on par with everybody else.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Gohan Black, as revealed through his OVA. Back in his original reality of Universe KAL10, he lived a happy, loving life with his versions of Goku and Chi-Chi, free of any conflict or fighting— the kind of peaceful life many Gohans have dreamed of having. But as time went on, Goku's heart disease slowly worsened, and one day, it took him down for good, to the devastation of his family. Sometime afterwards, Gohan took his mom out to the park hoping to see if it could cheer her up, but that was the day that El Hermano came to his world, and utterly beat the poor kid to a pulp for reasons that he couldn't understand before attempting to kill him out of frustration and disgust. Chi-Chi then took the blow to save her son, and El Hermano vaporized Universe KAL10, Gohan only surviving complete annihilation because of Zamasu's rescue and fusion into Gohan Black. While his methods may be increasingly harsh, it makes perfect sense why he's so incensed at Universe 7DT's Chi-Chi for having an unhealthy addiction to sleeping with other men, along with Emo Gohan for capitalizing on it— it sullies the memory of everything his original family meant to him.
Gohan Black: You have it all: A mother! A father! A universe to call home! I don't have any of that! An alcoholic pimp like you wouldn't understand the hell that I've been through!
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Despite having a genuine desire to mold Chi-Chi into a better person, Gohan Black crosses this line when he threatens to lobotomize her in the desperate hopes it'll reduce her sexual urges, brushing off the massive risk of making her brain-dead. Sure enough, even the decidedly neutral Absalon Gohan considers stepping in to stop him, and this gets Emo Gohan shocked and enraged enough to stop treating his mom like a utility and achieve El Blanco's true power to take Black down.
    • El Hermano skyrockets past this line when he erases Universe KAL10 from existence after a botched attempt at killing its native Gohan, just because the poor boy didn't know how to fight, let alone a good one. And given how he's already killed numerous Gohans across numerous timelines for being too weak, it's not hard to imagine that this might not be the first time he's done this.
