YMMV / Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans

• Alternative Character Interpretation: Dr. Lychee. Was he really that full of hatred of the Saiyans, to the point of wanting genocide on an entire planet who had nothing to do with the Tuffle-Saiyan conflict, or was his Ghost programmed that way by Hatchiyack who exaggerated that hatred of his following his last moments?
• Ensemble Dark Horse:
  • Hatchiyack doesn't appear anywhere in the franchise outside of this OVA, Raging Blast 2 (which features a remastered version of the OVA), and some shorts in the Japan-exclusive Dragon Ball Heroes, yet he was popular enough to warrant a canon Expy in Agnilasa, Universe 3's final warrior in Dragon Ball Super.^note  Agnilasa also draws elements from Hirudegarn, Super 13 and Janemba, but Hatchiyackis clearly the most direct inspiration. The only other villain to get such explicit honors is Broly.
  • Dr. Lychee himself is often surprisingly well-regarded, considering he's not the final antagonist of the piece or even alive, and is barely present in some takes. It mainly comes down to him being far more unique and original than your average Dragon Ball movie antagonist, his motivation having a legitimate point as opposed to simple conquest and destruction, and his gimmick of resurrecting dead warriors being intriguing. Tellingly, much of his character was recycled for Dr. Myuu in Dragon Ball GT.
• Magnificent Bastard: Dr. Lychee is a Tuffle who perished during the genocide of his race at the hands of the Saiyans. Before his death, he created Hatchiyack, a supercomputer that could harness The Power of Hate and had the power to create Ghost Warriors, phantom constructs of deceased enemies of the Saiyans, including himself. As a Ghost Warrior, Lychee released Destron Gas all over the Earth with the intention of poisoning and disabling the ki of the Saiyans that lived there. Ghost Warriors of past enemies prevent the heroes from destroying the Destron Gas machines. When finally confronting Lychee himself, Lychee anticipates his defeat and instead has his hatred be collected by Hatchiyack to complete its transformation into the ultimate warrior.
