YMMV / Doing It Right This Time

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Asuka should have chosen a better way to phrase her opinion on Shinji’s aiming skills…
Misato:"The rookie did good, […] In fact I think he did better than your first time, Asuka."
Asuka:"My first time was at the age of seven, […] Besides, it's all just point and squirt; you'd expect a boy to be capable of that by his age. […] Ugh! Please don't ever quote that out of context. Or at all, in fact."
  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Rei’s origin is pretty different from canon: In this story, Rei was born two years after Gendo and Naoko stopped dating, and the elder Akagi replaced Yui’s DNA with hers.
    • Naoko was not a nice person in canon. In this story she is utterly unlikeable.
  • Fanon:
    • Naoko Akagi's soul is NOT inside Unit 00. That is another piece of Lilith/Rei's soul.
    • Rei is a piece of Lilith's soul trapped inside Yui Ikari's cloned body. She is not half-Angel. Canonically her only DNA donor known is Yui.
    • Nobody knows what kind of pills was Rei taking in the show. It is possible they were emotion-dampeners and suppressors, but it is not canon fact.
  • One True Threesome: This is, in fact, the official relationship: Shinji, Asuka and Rei, as well known as the “Israfel Special”.
  • Strangled by the Red String: In the first draft of the story, the characters hook up and are oddly okay with the idea of a three-way relationship awfully fast, especially given their initial reluctance to form lasting relationships with each other. The revised version averts this with a more gradual relationship building.
