- Hilarious in Hindsight: David's idea for the radio-controlled timepiece he describes to Dr. Swinford more-or-less jibes with how the Apple Watch functions.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Several later-familiar faces pop up here. Keir Dullea of course went on to be in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Janet Margolin had a prolific career in film and TV, including playing Woody Allen's wife on two separate occasions (Take the Money and Run, Annie Hall). Clifton James (Lisa's therapist John) is better-known now as Sheriff J.W. Pepper, and Karen Lynn Gorney (Josette, one of the other patients) played Stephanie in Saturday Night Fever.
- In a Hey, It's That Place! situation, the film's climax happens on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the same steps Rocky Balboa climbed a decade-and-a-half later.
- Tough Act to Follow:
- Dullea and Margolin were both so good in their roles they fell victim to Typecasting. In the wake of the film they both got sick of getting offered "disturbed young person" roles.
- While their future films gained varying levels of acclaim, Frank and Eleanor Perry never really topped this film in the eyes of critics.
