YMMV / Creating Rem Lezar

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: At one point, live-action footage of the characters is replaced with voiceovers overlaying realistic drawings of the characters speaking for a few minutes before switching back to live action for the remainder of the movie. The change is never acknowledged or explained.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A blue-haired, friendly hero named Rem? Sound familiar?
  • Memetic Molester: Rem himself. Given how close this strangely dressed man acts towards the two child leads, and always seem to only approach them when they are alone (because he only exists in their imagination), it was almost inevitable.
Kevin Murphy: Hard to believe the adult who sneaks into children's bedrooms at night, wearing a body stocking, didn't catch on as a kids' franchise.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Vorock's pixelated, badly chroma-keyed and constantly deforming face is fairly creepy.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Kathleen Gati, who plays Ashlee's mom, went onto a prolific acting career, most prominently as General Hospital villain Dr. Liesl Obrecht.
  • So Bad, It's Good: The sheer enthusiasm, decent music, and lack of talent in all other fields makes this an anti-classic.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Everything about kids specials in the late 80's is in this movie. Musical numbers mixed with high reverb, Rem Lezar's perm-mullet and neon wardrobe, and the appearance of the twin towers of the NYC World Trade Center as the tallest buildings the kids can think of. The last one especially dates this to pre-2001.
