YMMV / Central Park

Go To

  • Ass Pull: In "The Lyin' in Winter", Bitsy came very to close to buying Central Park and has enough investors to help her buy it, but the thing that ruined her plan is her brother, Ambrose, backing the investors and if the park deal does go through, Bitsy would get the park, but she would have lost her hotel to Ambrose who only wants the hotel to spite Bitsy. While it does seem like something he would do, this twist came out of nowhere with no foreshadowing to back it up and the last time we saw him was twelve episodes ago.
  • Awesome Art: The animation style is unsuprisingly similar to Bob's Burgers, given the shared creators. But Central Park ramps it up in fluidity and 3-D background transitions. The fluidity in particular is more noticeable whenever there's a song.
  • Catharsis Factor: Due to his insufferable attitude and willingness to let Owen and Cole get hurt, seeing Griffin get fired is utterly satisfying almost as much as seeing the lovable Birdie get his job back.
  • Ho Yay:
    • A few moments between Birdie and Owen can make it seem like Birdie has a crush on Owen. This includes a few moments in "Hot Oven" where Birdie mistakes Owen calling the pizza "baby" for him calling him "baby" and saying he likes when Owen does that, calling Owen "my little pepperoni", and commenting that Owen's "cute when he's nervous" in Hat Luncheon.
    • "Castle Sweet Castle" has him with a sweet duet with Elwood, "You Are the Music" where they endlessly sing praises to each other's music skills to the point of forgetting they were supposed to teach the Tillerman kids how to play music.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Helen is clearly only interested in Bitsy for her fortune and often wishes to kill her dog. However, she's clearly in an unenviable position having to constantly deal with Bitsy's abuse and how she has a lower standing to her boss than a fricking dog. And it's shown in "Dog Spray Afternoon" that she does have a conscience after saving Cole and Shampagne from getting run over.
  • Magnificent Bastard: "The Shadow": Hank Zevansky was a cop investigating a string of jewelry thefts in The Brandenham hotel committing by the The Shadow. Witnessing a young Bitsy Brandenham steal, Hank becomes suspicious of Bitsy and orchestrates his own jewelry theft years later, copying The Shadow's MO. Eventually tricking Bitsy into confessing that she was the thief, Hank leaves her alone out of respect for Bitsy's skills, while Bitsy appreciates Hank for being among the first to recognize her.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Griffin crosses it by letting an owl attack Owen and Cole in a tree, uncaring if they potentially die. The show also seems to think this is Griffin’s MEH crossing since they revoke his occupation as the narrator and return it to Birdie.
  • Questionable Casting: Loren Bouchard has gained somewhat of a rep for his non-traditional casting on his animated shows (on Bob's Burgers, male voice actors voice both the mother and the elder daughter, among others), but many people expressed unease when it was announced that the very Caucasian Kristen Bell and the very Black Tituss Burgess would be playing biracial children. In June 2020, in the wake of renewed heated debates on racism in America, it was announced that Bell would no longer voice Molly (being replaced by Emmy Raver-Lampman) and has now switched to voicing Paige's younger sister, Abby.
