YMMV / Auto-Tune the News

  • Awesome Music: Pretty much everything (as stated in the intro), but in particular:
    • "Bed Intruder Song" is definitely their top example
    • "Backing Up Song"
    • "Winning", the Charlie Sheen song.
    • "Chuck Testa".
    • Number 8.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Though Frank the Angry Gorilla does technically represent something (reactionary rage), he still tends to come off as this, since he so often comes entirely out of nowhere and has a strange, laid back delivery.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: "Which part?"
  • Growing the Beard: The first video is fairly forgettable, but the second one is where the series starts to pick up some of its Running Gags and recurring characters (starting with the Angry Gorilla and "very thin ice".)
  • Ho Yay: Poke Me: Amir Sings his Plea.
  • I Am Not Shazam: The band is called The Gregory Brothers, their main YouTube channel and website is called schmoyoho, the show is called Auto-Tune The News, and the B-sides are called Songify This. The massive amount of names has led to them being used somewhat interchangeably.
  • Memetic Badass:
    • Katie Couric, a brilliant singer and former pimp.
    • Antoine Dodson WILL find you.
    • Jimmy McMillan of the Rent Is Too Damn High party, who can punch out Chuck Norris and Darth Vader and supports gay shoe marriage.
    • Tinky Winky. He's confirmed by Obama to be an ass-kicking expert, is on the no-fly list, and his purse was declared to be winning by Charlie Sheen.
  • Nightmare Fuel: "Bed Intruder" might come across as hilarious, but it's still about a teenage girl nearly raped in her bedroom by an intruder breaking into her home.
    • Not to mention that Antoine Dodson is a rape victim himself.
    • The fact that Antoine Dodson himself approves of the song and profits from the song helped to buy him a new house helps lessen this somewhat.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Of the the accidental singers, two (Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann) went on to run for president in 2012.
  • Special Effects Failure: Early videos had some pretty glaring green-screen outlines, though they gradually improved. Also, the Angry Gorilla costume's face is severely torn up.
