- Hilarious in Hindsight: Maccabeus is the villain of the story, and his appearance is so cartoonisly evil it resembles Ganondorf from Zelda.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: It's always been a Running Gag in the Asterix series to make fun of regional food, but this story set in Scotland never tries to do a joke about haggis.
- Win Back the Crowd: While arguably not the best story, it relaunched interest in the Asterix series following the widely panned album Asterix and the Falling Sky. Especially since Albert Uderzo decided to retire from it and trust a new team of creators who recaptured the series' original spirit. Then Asterix and the Missing Scroll was received even better as it returned to political satire in a way that would make the late René Goscinny proud.
