* HilariousInHindsight: Maccabeus is the villain of the story, and his appearance is so cartoonisly evil it resembles Ganondorf from Zelda.

Although the Gauls doesn't appreciate him, the story doesn't treat Numerusclausus as a bad guy.

* DesignatedVillain: Numerusclausus. The poor guy was just a civilian Roman trying to make a census of the village and the Gauls kept beating him up. They were no signs that the census would have been used for military purposes. That being said, they finally give him lenience at the end of the book, by suggesting the one surefire method to have a headcount: the traditional banquet.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: It's always been a RunningGag in the Asterix series to make fun of regional food, but this story set in Scotland never tries to do a joke about haggis.

* WinBackTheCrowd: While arguably not the best story, it relaunched interest in the Asterix series following the widely panned album Recap/AsterixAndTheFallingSky. Especially since Creator/AlbertUderzo decided to retire from it and trust a new team of creators who recaptured the series' original spirit. Then Recap/AsterixAndTheMissingScroll was received even better as it returned to political satire in a way that would make the late Creator/ReneGoscinny proud.
