Hic-cup Pup is a 1954 Tom and Jerry cartoon directed by Hanna-Barbera.

Spike the bulldog, tries to get his son, Tyke, down for a nap. Unfortunately, while chasing Jerry, Tom inadvertently wakes Tyke up, resulting in the little pup getting a bad case of hiccups. Under threat of bodily harm from Spike if he wakes Tyke again, Tom does his best not to disturbing the sleeping pup while he continues his pursuit of Jerry...which is complicated as the mouse does his best to ensure Tyke's hiccups continue.

Tropes:

  • Dig Your Own Grave: After causing the rain gutters to fall from the house and cause the loudest noise of all, Tom, figuring what was coming, quickly dug a hole and buried himself. Turns out that the noise actually cured Spike and Tyke's hiccups, leading to Spike pulling Tom out while shaking his hand in gratitude.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: Spike warns Tom not to wake up Tyke, or he'll give him a beating. Jerry, of course, makes sure Tom makes lots of noise.
  • Got Me Doing It: Said by Spike after he gets the hiccups as well.
  • Hand Gagging: After inadvertently waking Tyke up for the last time, Tom tries to muffle Tyke so Spike doesn't hear him hiccuping. Unfortunately, Tyke's hiccups end up traveling through Tom's arm and come out of his mouth.
  • Hiccup Hijinks: Every time Tyke is woken up he gets the hiccups. Spike tries to cure him by scaring him and giving him water, but then he gets the hiccups as well. They only get cured when Tom causes a drainpipe he climbed up to fall, the loud noise of the crash scaring the hiccups out of them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Tom unwittingly cures Spike and Tyke's hiccups, he tells him "anything you do from now on is okay!" Jerry hears this and, realizing he can no longer count on Spike to stop Tom, packs his things and runs off down South.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: Happens with hilarious effect when Spike suffers The Last Straw: ending up having the hiccups himself after trying to help Tyke.
Spike: *hic* *hic* Now he's got me doing it! *hic* I'll murder that *hic* cat! *hic*
  • Team Rocket Wins: One of only about a dozen cartoons where Tom wins.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: One of the few shorts where Tom ends up in Spike's good graces by the end. While he technically doesn't outright defeat Jerry like in some of the other shorts, he still comes out on top, due to Jerry being forced to flee at the end.

I'll Moider That *Hic* Cat!

When Tyke gets the hiccups after being woken up by Tom, Spike tries every hiccup cure he can think of to help. Unfortunately, not only does nothing work, but SPIKE ends up hiccuping too!

How well does it match the trope?
