Glago’s Guest is an animated short film from Walt Disney Animation Studios that’s directed by Chris Williams, who would go on to direct films such as Bolt and The Sea Beast. It originally premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on June 10, 2008.

The short follows a lone Russian soldier on a remote Siberian outpost whose daily routine gets interrupted by the arrival of a strange alien starship and a guest alongside it.

Glago's Tropes:

  • The Aloner: Until Lars shows up, the titular Glago is the only person on the Siberian outpost and hasn’t encountered anyone else for several months.
  • Benevolent Alien Invasion: Lars only arrived to move Glago’s house away from a meteorite that was going to land on that exact spot.
  • Dance Party Ending: The short ends with Glago dancing outside with a brief shot of the record player in his house.
  • Minimalist Cast: Glago is the only major character in the entire short and Lars shows up midway through.
  • Silence Is Golden: There are no spoken words throughout the entire short and the only form of dialogue is from the untranslated Russian songs playing in the background.
  • Spheroid Drop Ship: Lars’ spaceship is shaped like a gigantic black egg, ten times taller than Glago’s cabin.
  • Synchronized Swarming: Lars is made up of several small spheres that can move in rapid succession together and can lift up Glago’s house with enough effort.
