Pinkie Pie: Does that say "cupcakes"? I love cupcakes!

Pinkie Pie finds a short book with a very tempting title. She reads it.

It was not what she expected.

"Pinkie Pie Reads Cupcakes" is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fancomic posted on DeviantArt by Musapan. It was begun as a reaction/refutation of the infamous fan story Cupcakes (Sergeant Sprinkles). Originally only a one-off, the artist continued the plot through six more installments (each can be linked to from the first comic's page).

It can be read here.

Tropes In this Webcomic:

  • Clingy MacGuffin: The copy of Cupcakes teleports from pony to pony, avoiding all attempts to lock it away.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Fluttershy comforts Pinkie when she gets to her, saying that she probably didn't mean to "step on the caterpillar."
  • Expressive Hair: Pinkie's Heroic BSoD is accompanied by the return of her Pinkamena hairstyle. Her hair re-inflates when Rainbow Dash affirms that she would never think of Pinkie as a serial killer and offers to have a party with her to cheer her up.
  • Faint in Shock:
    • Rarity only makes it through two pages before fainting. Pinkie, Twilight and Applejack think that this is a mercy.
    • Fluttershy doesn't even open the book. The others stop her with a made-up alternate story line that is still too much for her:
Twilight: um... Pinkie steps on a caterpillar. And kills it, I guess.
Fluttershy: Wh.. What?? B-B-But who could write something so.. so.. !! [next frame: thud]
  • Fright-Induced Bunkmate: Twilight decides to sleep in Spike's bed after reading the book.
  • Funny Background Event: When Pinkie finds the book, Celestia can be seen in the background hiding behind a tree and laughing while making a trollface.
  • Heroic BSoD: Pinkie has a case of this when she sees that Rainbow Dash has read the copy of Cupcakes.
  • Hilarity Ensues: The author/artist manages to find the funny in everypony's reaction.
  • Kill It with Fire: Once the book has served its purpose of testing the Mane Six's friendship, Celestia burns it up and disintegrates it into a pile of ash.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The chapter entitled "Fluttershy Reads Cupcakes". The others stop her before she reads any further than Rainbow Dash falling asleep.
  • Secret Test of Character: It's revealed in the end that Celestia was responsible for the copy of Cupcakes as a manner to test the bond between the Mane Six to make sure they'd be ready for what lays ahead.
  • Security Cling: Pinkie's response upon reading the story is to immediately give Rainbow Dash one.
Rainbow Dash: Pinkie Pie, what gives? You're freaking me out here! Stop hugging me so tight!
  • So Bad, It's Good: In-Universe. Rainbow Dash's reaction to reading Cupcakes is that it's hilariously ridiculous - Pinkie would never act as she does in the story.
  • This Means War!: Applejack's response to reading the book.
Applejack: Whoever wrote this is getting bucked. IN THE FACE. REPEATEDLY.
